Title: DIR-655 no longer connectable
Post by: Sandhawk on July 19, 2009, 01:57:03 PM
Out of the blue I noticed I was no longer connected to my DIR-655, it is no longer transmitting a wireless signal and I am unable to reach the admin page.

I also noticed that the router no longer assigns my machines an IP address (neither a DHCP address from my modem, or a local 192 address) I've tried manually configuring my PC's IP addresses with no luck.

I tried to reset the box to factory mode, but even pressing or holding the reset button does nothing (the power, and LAN lights are on) I'm on an older firmware, I believe 1.11. Is it time for a new router?

EDIT: I'll keep adding things I've tried here as they come to mind,

I also cannot ping the router and Windows only see's it as an "Unknown network" and I have Jumbo frames disabled

Have you tried plugging directly into the router?  You only mentioned wireless..

Unplug your cable modem and the Dir655 wait a few minutes, plug them back in.

Tried that, but like I said, I cannot even connect to the router locally when manually setting a 192.168.0.xxx address

I had an old DI 624 with the same issue and had been told to hold the reset button in while unplugging the power, while holding the reset button in plug the power cord back into the router.
Seems odd but it did work for me.

JUst to make sure you have a clear understanding when you reset to default, 192.168.0.1 will be the access address.

Just tried this, held the reset button for 30 seconds, unplugged it while still holding it for another 30 seconds, plugged it back in while holding for 30 more seconds, still no good. Any other suggestions before tossing it?

I'm @ a loss ...maybe try to access on a different system, could be the browser. I'd hate to trash it.

Tried three different systems each with a different browser, the router doesn't even assign a local IP to the machines. I think its done for :-/

Can you hook you machine directly to the machine(PC)? Try giving you computer an IP of 192.168.0.2 and a router IP of 192.168.0.1? Now try connecting to the admin interface http://192.168.0.1
