Title: DNS320L - accessing via app after IP address change
Post by: DrBunker on December 11, 2016, 03:05:22 PM
I recently received a new router from my ISP which amazingly does not offer an option to change the IP address range. As a result I have had to change the addresses of everything connected to it. In most cases this was sorted by DHCP but the NAS was set with a static address for obvious reasons. I managed to change this by amending the IP address of my laptop and I can now access it via a web browser over my network as before however I cannot access it via the MyDLink Access or MyDLink Lite apps.

I've restarted the router and the NAS and I can't see any option to "install" it again like I could do with my DCS932 camera. I'm guessing it's something to with refreshing the apps or removing the device and searching for it again but again I can't see any option for this either. Can anyone provide any suggestions as to how to fix this?  :-\

Thanks in advance.

What Mfr and model is the main host router?

Once you change the IP address on the DNS to have the same string as the new routers string, then that would be thats all thats needed. You would need to change the Gateway address on the DNS as well to what the new address of the new router is. So if your old router was using 192.168.0.1 and the new router uses 192.16.1.1, then you would need to change the DNS IP address to 192.168.1.### and gateway to 192.168.1.1.

IF your using mobile apps that have configured addresses, these would need to be changed as well. Mydlink.com is not effected unless the main host router prevents communication thru it.

The IP address is correct (I can access it via a web browser) and the gateway matches the range (and is the same as used by other devices on the network).

I'm mainly trying to use mydlink Access and there's no option to forget the previous address as far as I can see.

Again, thanks for helping, I think I've covered everything. As per the op, the NAS is up and working fine; I've moved new files to it today via file explorer so there's nothing wrong with the device as far as I can tell. It's only the DLink apps that are struggling to connect.

Try uninstalling the app then reboot the device then re-install the app and set up again...

No luck there unfortunately. Uninstalled the app, restarted the NAS, logged back into a freshly downloaded app but the local NAS is still not showing. There wasn't any other setting up to be done unless I'm missing something, :(

I know the MDL Lite app doesn't need any configuration so it automatic.

Can you see the DNS if you open a web page to mydlink.com in a web browser and log in there, either remote or local LAN side?

One thing you can try, maybe, If the ISP modem supports it, you could change the modems DHCP server pool back to what you had been using. What was the IP address pool string you were using prior? 192.168.0.#?

I can't access the NAS from the mydlink Lite app or the mydlink.com website. I can see my camera on there but the NAS shows as offline. I can access it either via a webpage or via Windows Explorer (to move/copy/add/remove files) so it's working correctly and on the IP address I'm expecting.

I can't change the IP address range on the modem unfortunately, this is the reason I'm in this fix in the first place. I know I could fix the problem by using a third party router but then I'd have to reconfigure loads of other devices. It is only this point that remains an issue.

I think D-Link support needs to have a look at your configuration. Something maybe on the MDL service side is not working right after the ISP modem change. I know that I can change my many routers here and even change the LAN side IP address and all of my MDL service devices, DNR and DCS all work well from the mobile app. I've even changed my ISP modem as well fairly recently. Maybe something in the service needs to be reset. You might see if you an remove the device from the service then re-add it. If this still fails, I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

Spoke to someone on the live chat (I'm at work so this was the easier option) and gave him the info in my OP. His response: you will need to reset it and reinstall it again. To be fair his logic is sound: "there is nothing that you can do with the app, nor with the Mydlink website. The only thing you can modify is the NAS, or your router."

I was hoping there would be something I could do other than taking the nuclear option but it seems not. I'll do this when I get a chance and report back.

Ya, only thing Ive seen before is sometimes the service on there end gets broke and they have to do something to fix it. Doesnt' happen a lot. In most cases the service just connects with the devices if conditions are met. No configurations on there end to set. Mostly PnP operation.

Let us know how it goes after the reset and set up from scratch.

I'm not familiar with the superhub 3 but do remember there were some problems over blocked ports on their other offerings.

In theory there should not be any problem, but strange things can happen with port forwarding and firewall blocking at the router.  If it is possible check if there is a firewall active and if so, what the rules are.
