Title: Cannot install fun_plug...help?
Post by: KOTULCN on January 07, 2017, 12:51:41 AM
I have a DNS-323 which I've used for several years. I recently purchased a Synology DS416Play and I want to use my 323 as a backup. I found a tutorial which walks you through the steps but for some reason no matter which version of fun_plug & fun_plug.tgz I have tried I cannot get Telnet to work.

This is the tutorial I have been following: http://www.fatdex.net/php/2013/05/20/how-to-turn-a-dlink-dns-323-into-a-rsync-backup-location/ (http://www.fatdex.net/php/2013/05/20/how-to-turn-a-dlink-dns-323-into-a-rsync-backup-location/)

No matter how many times i've tried, whether from a Windows machine or my iMac I cannot get Telnet to let me access the DNS-323. I am hoping someone here can help me figure this out.

DNS-323 is a B1 with firmware 1.8

Does anyone have suggestions to get fun_plug installed? If I can get it to work, then I can follow tutorial so that I can use it for backing up certain folders.

Thank You.

Does it matter that I have the 323 setup in RAID?

First thing log in to your unit via the webUI and then enable the ftp server.  Using FileZilla in windows log on to your unit and then copy the two fin_plug files to Volume_1.  After that reboot you unit (switch it off, wait a fer seconds and switch it on again), this should allow fun_plug to take control of your NAS.  You can then continue with the tutorial, just remember that it helps to have a proper telnet client on the computer you are using to connect to the unit.
