Title: Copy from NAS to USB drive ?
Post by: iparout on January 10, 2017, 11:00:16 AM
Hi.

Is there an easy and fast way to copy contents from the DNS-320 straight to a USB HDD ? (apart from connecting both to a laptop, of course). When I connect the USB drive to the NAS, it is recognized correctly however the USB device won't appear as a destination for file copy/move on the web interface of the NAS.

Any help ?

Not going to happen unless you rewrite the firmware.

The USB port in the AS is designed as a print server port for U*SB printers and a way of attaching USB hard disks to transfer their data into storage on the NAS.

Just what I thought. Pity.

This is possible using rsync if you have Fonz fun_plug installed, but I don't think that counts as "easy". It works for me though - I've transferred a lot of data to and from a USB hard disk connected directly to a DNS-320 this way.
