So it has been a full day testing out this new firmware and so far so good. My dad and I just about had it with this router, so I hope this new beta firmware works without fail. I am going to have to wait a week or so to see if the problem has gone away. After installing this firmware it was recommend to configure the router manually which I did and I also left the DNS relay checked to see if that problem has gone as well. So far I noticed that the performance of the router has gotten greatly better, quick and responsive. My internet speed is also noticeably faster. Like I said so far so good.
Will back in the forums in a week to give you guys an update.

I was looking for the download for the new beta firmware you are referring to and can not locate it. Can you help me? We downloaded the 1.11 and our shareport loses the printer connection, but also I've lost the ability to scan. Before we buy another one, we're hoping to be able to fix this one. Any help would be appreciated! :)

It's @ ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir825/Beta/Firmware/
Hardware A1 only... nothing new for B1 revision.

Well will put it on the router, but as of now i have shelved the unit and gone back tot he Linksys G. Wish they would just opensource these routers, problems would be fixed faster and it would attract a whole new community to purchasing it.
Anyone else had to restart the unit since installing this firmware? Slowdowns or any VOIP issues?
Basicly this unit stays disconnected for me until I know it wont be causing me grief every few days.
-
This beta firmware was a huge improvement for me. It got rid of that stupid picture authentication, browsing through the files was a million times faster, and I haven't had to keep resetting the routerer. I got tired of it dropping connections to my printer using the shareport so I got a network printer so I haven't had a chance to test to see if it fixed the problem with Windows 7 and shareport yet.
-
I installed this new firmware last night, and re-entered all my router settings again without the backup file.
We'll see how long this goes for...
At this point... almost anything would have been better than 1.11NA :-S
However, it seems that after reading some postings in the beta software thread, the lockups are continuing after a few days.
The two main things I'll be looking to see addressed...
1. Loss of internet access/router access after 3-4 days
2. Loss of SharePort Functionality (connecting printer) after 1-2 days
I'll cast my vote in at a later time as I see how this new firmware works out for me.
-
AWESOME! Not... the same garbage is happening with 1.12, I'm up to 2 days uptime, and I can't access the router login page, browsing still works but I keep getting "server not responding" errors. New wireless clients can't access anything, they can't get an IP address.
I installed 1.12 and rebuilt my config from scratch. No good.
-
Just installed this on my router... Appears to have helped with the wireless issues I had after the 1.11 Speed is better... Will run for a couple of days and update further.
-
Same issue popped up by 8/1/09...
only 3 days
What a dissapointment. Off with DNS relay again...
-
Is the DNS relay that important?
-
Its not really THAT important. But it would lighten the load of communications between my computer and my ISP.
Plus that Advanced DNS thing that is supposed to help with "security" sounds good... im not sure exactly what it does...but I cant turn it on if I need DNS Relay on as well.
Either way...while the DNS Relay may be a small inconvenience... its there.. it should work.
While not on the same level, If I get a car with auto-dimming rear view mirrors.. While it may not be important...I'd expect them to work ;)
In addition, my Shareport function, while other people may not require it, has become useless. I still use a non wireless USB printer..and with natural technological advancements I have grown accustomed to not plugging up directly to it if I am roaming my house and have something to print. While it wasnt perfect before.. its worse now. I have to go and unplug/reboot my router to print wirelessly for a day... if at that..

All right, I am back to tell you guys that the new firmware still has bugs in it. today is the tenth day with the 1.12NA firmware and it has stopped internet traffic completely four times in the past ten days, come on man! The only good thing about this is that I do not have to walk all the way down two flights of stairs to the basement in order to turn off the router and then back on again, the router does not lock up like it did in the past, you can still access the routers GUI, so you can log on to the router and reboot or release and then renew the WAN IP which I do. I am getting really really tired of this crap!
When it does work it is fast and does what it is supposed to do.

Hi,
I've upgraded the firmware in my DIR-825 with the new beta (1.12b05NA (Beta)). Is there a way to tell that it "took"? I still see the prior version (1.12NA) in the header of the browser-based interface.
Thanks,
Bg

:o I've updated the FW from 1.11 to 1.12 (downloaded from http://www.dlink.com/products/?tab=3&pid=DIR-825&rev=DIR-825 ) and I have the issue with DNS Relay as well.... Somehow after I enable the Advance DNS feature, everything is working correctly again...

When mine locked up after 3 days... I could not access the router GUI. *sigh*

When mine locked up after 3 days... I could not access the router GUI. *sigh*
So my router just locked a 14 minutes ago. I was online browsing and I noticed that the pages were taking forever to load but they did load, so I tried to log into my router and the GUI's page would not load, it seemed as though the router locked up again. Not wanting to walk all the way down to the basement, I disabled my connection and re-enabled it and nothing so I kept refreshing the page and retyping the routers address and finally it decided to work, I logged in and everything seemed fine but just in case this time around I disabled the DNS relay. Once I disabled the DNS relay I then again disabled my NIC card and re-enabled it so it can grab the DNS and everything now seems to be working fine again.

Nope, doesn't fix the lock-up problems. Amazing. If the problem isn't going to be fixed soon, I'm going to have to get my router replaced...wonder if they will ship me one with the firmware prior to 1.11? My wife is getting pissed at me as it always seems to be her that finds things in a locked up state, and she isn't tall enough to power cycle the router.
-
My is dropping about once a day. I didn't think of this pre-firmware upgrade but I had it sitting on top of another dlink switch and thought it might be overheating. Doesn't seem to really make a difference.
Page start to load slowly and gradually nothing. I can ping the router but nothing loads on the Web GUI. I'm on a Comcast line. Can anyone ping their router when the GUI drops out?

Router pings, but no admin GUI, correct. I know mine isn't a heat issue.
-
Already tested this beta, still have problems with the routers, i get lost all operations after a few days,
only the power button stay on... the others are off and even unplugin the AC for a few seconds resume the normal operation... i must to wait for hours!! no good news for this model yet, any advance in the new firmware?
saludos.

Really cool would be the ability to do a scheduled reboot of the router. If I did that nighly I'd likely be in good shape and avoid these outages.
-
OK, so as of now my router has been up and running without any problems for 7 days 2 hours 41 minutes. Once I disabled the DNS Relay last time, it has been behaving nicely and as it should. No slow downs, No unable to reach the GUI, no having to reboot the darn thing, its all good. The only thing now is that there are times when I can not make a phone call. I am using VOIP from Packet8 and there are times I can receive calls but I can not make them, don't know if its the router itself or Packet8 but I have all the correct ports open and configured properly.
