Title: DIR 880L Power Supply DC Adapter size
Post by: DevilDog on March 26, 2017, 11:13:43 AM
Hi,

The power supply's cable is too short to reach the top of my desk unit at home.  I'd like to get a supply with a longer cable or an extension for it so I can place the router where I want it to be located. The cable is 4' but I need a 5' length.  The supplied power supply model is WA-36C12R.

Can anyone recommend a replacement supply.  Especially if they are currently using it.  The DC plug is 3.5x1.35mm.  I've looked at DC extension cables but they all appear to only provide 5V where the router needs 12v 3A.

Thanks!

Get a power extension cable from the wall outlet to to the power adapter for the router. Default power adapters don't come in longer lengths.

That's odd. As per here (https://www.amazon.com/WA-24E12-LaCie-AP713709-Expansion-Freeagent/dp/B004HLR1AA), that PSU is for 12v/2amp while the specs (http://content.us.dlink.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/DIR-8880L_REVA_DATASHEET_2.00_EN_US.pdf) for the DIR-880L require 12v/3amp. What hardware version of the DIR-880L do you have? There are several black versions and one white version. Maybe they have different PSU?

The standard for the 800L is 12v 3A.

The user needs to just install a 110v power extension cord to the adapter as it's not recommended to use any extension between the power adapter to the router.
