Title: DIR-615 Rev. E3 dropping LAN connection
Post by: BBPRECISE on June 05, 2017, 10:33:55 AM
Been having this problem for a few months. 1st it would only happen once a week or so, now it's happening 1-2 times a day. I can get it working again by cycling the power. I've tried and am currently running DD-WRT firmware hoping to see a change, but it didn't. It's something on the LAN side because I can't connect to the router thru my browser with cycling the power. Anybody hare ever have the same issue?

This is being used in a small business. We have 24 pc's including a couple misc. devices connected to a D-Link 24 port Gigabit switch which is then connected to a Netgear 10/100 10 or 12 port switch (which also has 3-4 pc's connected directly to it as well). Then I have 1 connection from the Netgear switch to the DIR-615 which is connected to our ISP's cable modem. The 615 has a staic IP from our ISP and acts as our DHCP server.

Thanks.

If you have DD-WRT loaded, it's recommended to check out there forum since this forum is for OEM FW and products.

Sorry 'bout that. Haven't had a chance to fill my profile out yet.
Located in ME in the good 'ol US.

ISP was Time Warner Business Class which is now Spektrum. Can't get to the cable modem to get you specific info and it's not accessible thru a browser.

Just waiting for my account to get active over at DD-WRT so I can post up the same thing.

Kinda hopin that somebody would drop in a say yeah I know the fix for your problem and I'd re-flash to OEM firmware and get it done or say it's hardware and nothing you can do.

Plan for the worst, hope for the best.

Is there any modem information on the modem itself?

Could be a swap cable issue or maybe port speed. however not sure what DD-WRT supports. Review the linked information for troubleshooting and try some of the items that may apply or be similar.

What kind of activity are your clients doing? File sharing? just normal networking?

What operating systems are on the clients?

How long have you had this router? It is most likely a hardware issue, not firmware. I would try calling tech support but make sure you put the D-Link firmware back on since DD-WRT is not supported.

"The 615 has a staic IP from our ISP and acts as our DHCP server."

Does Charter allow for static IP without a gateway? I know Comcast uses CIDR for static IP which means you need the ISP gateway to act as hop to bridge the CIDR so you can't use your own router. I would double check what model modem/gateway you have.

PS. Are you sure you want to use a 30$ for almost 30  business computers? Even with dd-WRT the CPU is going to be a big bottleneck. I assume your internet plan is less than 30Mbps? General rule of thumb is your router should cost at least 1 months of service.
