Title: HELP! dns-321 easy search does not allow configuration
Post by: neeldas on July 25, 2009, 10:33:52 AM
I believe there was a power outage while I was away on vacation, but since I returned, I observed the following with my dns-321:
1. the network light is on solid and is blue
2. the 2 hard drive lights are blinking simultaneously , and are blue.
3. the NAS box disappeared from my mapped drives / network window
4. I can't ping the box
5. when i bring up the Easy Search Utility, I see the default IP is self-assigned(192.168.0.32) but when I select the device, the Configuration button is grayed out and cannot be selected to bring up the web config window.

Help please!!

thanks,
-Neel

I returned home after 2 months away. My DNS was off while I was away. When I returned, I had the EXACT same symptoms as you... I fought with it for hours... even days.... The only thing that fixed it was to buy another one and put the drives in the new one....

That is a most unfortunate outcome; I hope someone from Dlink support reads this and proposes some more palatable solution?

I am curious: did you contact Dlink support / get any response from them?

Anyone else out there experience this problem? I scrounged for the $$ to buy this box, and would hate to get 'approvals' to replace it so soon: it's only about 3months old.

If I do have to replace it, I will think twice before getting another dlink box for fear of running into the same problem.

What is the IP address of your PC?

Please make sure the DNS-323 and PC IP address are withing the same IP address range that means they have the same first 3 octet's in the IP address.

The laptop and the DNS-321 do exist on the same sub-net: please see below

Laptops/AppleTV:
192.168.30.116 AppleTV 00:1f:5b:86:7a:ea
192.168.30.117 fujitsu 00:17:42:41:8d:9d
192.168.30.121 dell8600 00:11:f5:0e:a8:8d
192.168.30.123 fujitsu 00:13:e8:25:9d:fd
And the DNS-321
192.168.30.125 dlink-519989 00:22:b0:51:99:89

however, the easy search utility from dlink is still showing 192.1.0.32!

Did you ping 192.168.30.125 or 192.168.0.32?

What happens when you try to access the DNS-323 at 192.168.30.125 in the browser?

You can only configure a device on the same subnet as you, set a static IP on your PC long enough to get it back on it's old IP then you can switch back and get that bad boy reconfigured.
