Title: Improved DIR-825 Reception
Post by: d1gw33d on July 28, 2009, 02:14:38 PM
Originally I hijacked a post regarding the DIR-825 possibly over heating while using the 5Ghz band that turned into a topic of reception between my DIR-825 and DAP-1522 on the 5Ghz band.

I was receiving 30-34% (per the router control panels status screen) reception quality to the DAP-1522 that was less than 20 ft. away with 1 wall between them.

I got a 20% bump in reported signal strength by completely disabling all QOS & traffic shaping on the DIR-825. I also forced 20Mhz on both.

It now reports 53-55% signal strength and more importantly I have no stutter/slow down while streaming HD video files to my PS3/Xbox 360.

I thought I'd share... cheers.

Since reading your post I've tried toggling the QOS and WMM settings.  I have not noticed any increase in performance in my environment, but I'm glad its helped you.

I did notice that toggling off WMM will often cause the router web interface to crash.  I turn off WMM click SAVE and the router does its soft reboot.  Upon restart the router passes traffic OK, but I can no longer login to the web admin for the router.  I am forced to pull the power cord to restore functionality of the web interface.

I've now tested this several times and confirmed it occurs everytime I turn off WMM and SAVE.

Yes, V2.02NA firmware.
