I have router DIR-825 (FW version 1.11) connected to a generic USB drive. The drive is listed in the SharePort version 1.10 utility, but upon attempting to connect, the status remains "Available" and does NOT connect. The only thing that gets it to connect properly is rebooting the router, which is NOT how its supposed to work! Please advise.

upgrade to firmware 1.12, reset the router to factory default and build config from scratch. Remove and re-install shareport.

I installed firmware 1.12, re-did my config, and SharePort installations.
It connected to the drive following the reboot, but disconnected several hours later. The same problems remain: It only connects following a router reboot.
Any other ideas?

DIR-825 Rev A1 with Firmware 1.12NA
Shareport 1.10 on 5 different computers
Shareport has NEVER worked connecting to attached drives, regardless of thumb-drive/stick or powered external HD.
This feature could be great, but it needs to get fixed!
BTW - I have tried contacting support 2 times with this issue. I decided to try the forum after the most recent, fruitless, attempt.

I have the same problem on my DIR-628.

Join the crowd...I have done all the upgrades and reinstall and two trips via phone to tech support! Still drops the connection after a few hours and the router needs a reboot. I even have gone through the email chain with them...no joy!

I have the same problem with my DIR-628 (fw 1.22NA) and sharepoint utility v 1.1.0R1
my printer (HPJ5780) appears but I can not neither connect (stays available) neither recognize the usb driver installed on the PCs (tried 3 of them). Could someone help me, please? :'(

DGL-4500... same thing.

Precisely the same thing with my DIR-655 (with the most recent firmware) and an Epson printer. Always available but never connects. Or it connects for a second and then disconnects but remains "available". I've never successfully printed from any computer with any software using Shareport. Shareport knows this printer exists but my computers and software can't seem to find it to print to it. I didn't buy this router for this feature but thought it was a pretty cool thing to have once I set it up. And it would be if it actually worked. Clearly, based on the posts here, it doesn't.

My DGL-4500 only completes the connection once I've reset the router after hooking up the USB drive.
If I attach the drive after the router is turned on it shows up but I can't complete a connection.
Worse than that, when I tried to turn on Media Sharing on Vista with SharePort running it did bad things.
It appears to change my private network to a public one and it says "Identifying" on the "Network and Sharing" window for a while, then changes back to a private network. The Media Sharing menu never comes up. It never says the connection is broken but that may be what's happening. Everything works fine without SharePort running.
