Solved with Beta Code (see last post)
Starting a new thread to focus on xbox 360 wireless (with the xbox 360 wireless adapter) issue DIR-825 - B1 - 2.02NA
Old thread was: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=6634.0
With DIR-825
When connected by ethernet (wired), ....everything works great.
With wireless, ...the xbox network test show that the xbox cannot communicate with my network. (It's doesn't even get to the part where it tries to communicate with the internet, ...or 1 step further to xbox-live.) The router does not issue an IP address to the XBOX.
I have 8 other devices connected (3 wired, 4 wirelss 2.4GHz g only, and 1 wireless 5.0GHz a and n mixed). The xbox can see both networks, ...I select the G with WEP and enter in the paraphrase, then try the "test connection" on the xbox. No connection. I look at the router to see if it's in the list, ...not in DHCP listing, not in LAN listing, ...and not in the Wireless connections. Then I try the A with WPA and enter in the paraphrase, the try the "test connection" on the xbox. Again, ..no connection to router.
When connected wirelessly with my DGL-4300, ....everything works great.
a) SPI was enabled --> I just now disabled it.
b) UDP endpoint was set to "Address Restricted" --> I just now changed to "endpoint"
c) TCP endpoint was set to "Port and Address Restricted" --> I just now changed to "endpoint"
I've rebooted the modem and the xbox, ...unfortunately still no connection.
It feels like the router doesn't see the XBOX, ...doesn't give it an IP address, ...etc.
I've tried to connect to either of the dual band networks.
For my 2.4GHz settings, ..I have now enable G and B.
In the advanced settings, I have now disabled WiFi protected setup.
Doesn't work....
For my 5.0GHz settings, ..I have enabled N and A.
I've changed to WPA only for security settings.
WIFI protected setup is still disabled.

How is the xbox connected wireless again? Is it going through a wireless bridge or do you have an wireless adapter? is so what adapter is?
Are you wireless channels locked or is it set to Auto?
Gaming and QoS for XBL (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=42011.0)
-
I'm using the xbox wireless adapter. Firmware - 4.3.19.1 Hardware version - A
Channels are set to Auto.
Note: I tried to upload screen shots (as .jpg) of the configuration of my router, but it told me I didn't have write access.
Is there a way that I could extract and post my configuration settings easily (with some of the security items masked)? This would be much easier (and you would probably be able to trouble shoot more quickly).
-
It's a known issue. I gave up after reading on other forums about bunches of other people having the same issue. All we can do is wait for another firmware update.
The issue is: When using the official Xbox 360 wireless network adapter regardless of the 2.4ghz or 5ghz band, connecting to the router *instantly* fails while trying to get an IP address. SSID shows up fine, but it's almost like the router dosen't even want to talk to the network adapter =/
-Even after doing a full xbox 360 reset and clearing out all the network settings, still dosen't fix it.
-Even completetly removed all security settings, and factory reset the router
-Just to test to see if it was the adapter, plugged in my old DI-624 and worked flawless.
-
Noticed that the xbox 360 wireless adapter takes the exact same MAC address as the ethernet connection. Is there a security setting with the dir-825 to prevent "others" from cloning the mac address and getting onto my network?
I tried manually setting the ip address on the xbox network config page (including the dns server, gateway etc....) still no connection.
-
I have the exact same problem. My xbox only has this problem with the Microsoft XBOX360 adapter. My aftermarket Linksys adapter works fine on my network...
I have the exact same firmware, hardware revision, etc.
This is RIDICULOUS.
-
Any word on this issue? I purchased a DIR-825 B1 and I'm encountering the exact same problem --- my xbox 360 with microsoft wireless adapter will receive an IP address when connecting to the DIR-825. However, pluging in a network cable, Live works just fine. The console also had no problems connecting to Live under my previous router.
I followed the guidance in this thread (and others on this forum) --- running 2.02NA, endpoints sets properly, etc, etc.
I realize that I could probably get this to work if purchased a DAP-1522 but since I have a perfectly functional wireless adapter, there's no way I'm going to spend money on that.
-bashful
-
With firmware version 2.01EU those issues with Xbox 360 are fixed, but media center extender don't work because Xbox "doesn't see" other computers in LAN.
-
With the assistance of some network engineers friends, I believe I found the root cause of the problem.
A friend (who recommended the DIR-825 to me) has an A1 DIR-825 that has no problems receiving connections from my Xbox 360 using the Microsoft Wireless adapter. My B1 DIR-825 still won't receive a connection from my Xbox 360.
We did some network captures of the handshake and we found an important difference in the way that the A1 and B1 DIR-825s broadcast the country code. The A1 reports itself as a 'US ' (yes, that's a space there) where the B1 device reports itself as a 'USI'.
Reading http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa503147.aspx, we see that the A1 is claiming that it is capable as operating as an 802.11 station in all environments in the US. The B1 hardware, however, is claiming that it is capable as operating an 802.11 station in indoor environments only in the US.
My suggestion is that D-Link engineers test a B1 DIR-825 with the country value set to 'US '. If it fixes the problem, then releasing a firmware where this value could be controlled would solve the issue.
-bashful

Use a DAP-1522 in bridge mode using the 5 ghz band. You get "N" bandwidth. The xbox is a "G" device (and it doesn't work).
The result .... HD streaming from Netflix into my 1080i 60" Sony .... PRICELESS !!
Now if I could just stop my DIR-825 from "gutting" itself every hour. I just updated to dir825_revB_firmware_202NA and will see if that improves my situation.

dir825_revB_firmware_202NA is an absolute must to install available here ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir825_revB/Firmware/dir825_revB_firmware_202NA.zip.
My entire network was going down on an hourly basis using the Out Of the Box default stuff. My kid was complaing about the "lag" on his Xbox 360 games. I was ready to go buy yet another router.
Now with 202NA the network stays up (without Viagra) and the kid is super pleased with the new network latency (too bad he has to go back to school on Monday :( LOL).

Same problems here, can't seem to find a solution B1 version, tried updating firmware but didn't make a difference. I can access internet through both my computer and my laptop, just the 360 is won't connect wirelessly
-
I have discovered the same issue with my Nintendo DS. The router sees the DS and attempts to assign an IP address but something in the communication with the DS causes the DS to never receive the IP address. It appears this problem is identical to what others are seeing with the 360. I have a PS3 and it connects fine so far. I have Rev. B hardware with 2.02NA firmware loaded.
I don't mind beta testing a fix.
-
My Wii connects OK using WPA2/AES to the 825 B1 using V2.02NA firmware.
-
I have a Wii also that I connect using WPA2. My laptop, PS3, and Wii connect, but my DS will not. I am trying to use WEP for the DS. If I remove all security, the DS still will not connect but everything else is fine.
-
I have the same problem also as stated in the prev posts. Changed around the configurations for about 8hrs. I have DIR-825 B1 firm vr. 2.02NA. Hope D-link or someone figures something out soon! I am probibly just going to return my unit and buy a Netgear that is what this one replaced due to a lightning strike! One plus is my internet with the labtop and desktop is super fast but if the XBOX does not work the router is not doing me any good!
Update: Called D-link support talked to some guy he ran through my router settings with me changed a few things witch I had already done a few days prior, then told me it was a problem with the Xbox! I called Xbox support line they went through many different options some of witch where the same as the D-link support guy told me, but after about another half day waisted trying to get the Xbox to work they told me it was a problem with the router. Go figure!!!!!!!!!!

I bought this router yesterday. I have been attempting to get my xbox 360 with microsoft wireless adapter to communicate with the dir-825. This is a serious issue. I bought this router because it said it was certified for vista, meaning it has been tested for xbox live (look it up). I can connect to both my computers with 802.11g no problems. I want to run in wireless 802.11a on the 5GHz band to use Windows Media Center to its fullest on the 360. What is the point of a wireless gaming router that can't communicate with the most populated online gaming systems.
I called microsoft who were very helpful and I tried everthing that they told me to do. All of which was done again later with a DLink specialist (got him after two failed attempts with other Dlink reps). I am now waiting until tomorrow where I can talk to someone else about this issue. I am not terrible with computers as I am an Engineer. Dlink needs to accept there is a problem and fix it quickly. Port Forwarding, Virtual Servers, Turning off all the capabilities of the router including 5GHz and inputting the MAC address of the 360 adapter are not workign for anyone. The 2.02NA firmware does not fix this problem.
Please fix this, I want my xbox to see my computers and connect to the internet like all my inferior routers can.
-
A better option: return/sell your official xbox wireless adapter you paid $99 for and get Dlink's 1522 wireless bridge that will allow you to connect the 360 at N speeds.
I paid less for the 1522 than I did for that over priced joke MS calls a wireless adapter.
-
Could someone from DLink please acknowledge this issue, and give some kind of indication when it will be fixed?
-
I can't get it to work either. Have anybody figured out what the problem is.
I remember when I had my old router, I had some problems with the xbox adapter. I was able to get it to work after a while though.
-
Having the same problem here.
This is ridiculous, I bet not even the people at DLINK know how to get this done. :-[
-
Guys,
I highly doubt that DLINK is aware of this or has an answer. I've had two 825 routers and still can't connect to the internet. This morning, their help desk guy told me to take it back for a refund.
If they're saying that...then you know they're aware of some major issues.
-
Bump...
Aside from this bump:
So far with our testing we were able to connect wirelessly:
PS3
Wii
Laptops (Intel 4965ABG working for me)
Devices that we're NOT ABLE to connect:
Xbox 360's with the official Microsoft adapter
PSP (At least not the 2000 series)
Nintendo DS / DSi
Would anyone like to add to this list? I'm sure it's some simple code that can fix this with specific devices not being able to connect.
I don't remember if the 2.00NA worked well or not with wireless gaming devices; regardless I wasn't using that 2.00NA junk because with it, WIRED devices blew the router up.
I do not mind beta testing. Tech Engineer please respond on status? Thank you
-
I have the same problem with my DIR-825 + Xbox 360.
Would be great if there was some type of solution to this. I don't see why I should have to go and buy a DAP-1522 to make something work that cost more then most of the other routers out there. The Xbox 360 works fine with the WRT54G. I still have that on because I have an Airport Express which runs in WDS mode and this DIR-825 doesn't support WDS at least not yet (until DD-WRT releases software for it that would enable it to run)

On July 29th, I wrote a personal message to Ru-Fi-Oh and Lycan. Below is my message and their response. (You can see that they know. Since this Post has been hit over 2000 times, ...IT MUST BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. ...like the VOIP with SIP, ..like DNS Relay.)
I've tried to be patient, ...and now I'm back to my old DGL-4300. (I've had my DIR-825 for 3 months without being resolved for this XBOX issue!)

Ru-Fi-Oh, Lycan,
Any news on the xbox360 wireless connection? (DIR-825 - B1 - 2.02NA)
I see that someone else is having the same issue.
Would you like me to start a 2nd thread of this post? (since my 1st issues are resolved with 2.02NA)

Yeah please start a public thread so others can see it as well. Be as detailed as possible with yuor set up. It's better if issues are made public so we have proof to show of any failures and other users can comment as well.

I was checking the other router's forums for D-Link. I don't have a lot of confidence that they are working on the 825 right now because it looks like they are working specifically on the 855.

I hope that what ever they learn on the 855 is quick to replicate onto a 825.

I just bought the 825 REV B1 router yesterday.. got it for $75 new @ Best Buy. Unfortunately, I have been struck with this issue too and it's not as simple as moving my router since I have two Xbox's. I don't want to buy the wireless bridge either. Have the 2.02NA firmware loaded.
D-Link: What is your response? I think we deserve to know whether a fix is in the works and when it should be available.
-
Just purchased a DIR-825 4 days ago to replace my DIR-655...xbox can't connect to wireless. I'm running the latest firmware.

Hi, I can't say I've noticed the same and FYI the first link you provided is from the year of 2008! :P
And - if I'm not totally lost - when it comes to the 2nd link I think I've seen similar posts concernig other routers than 855 too.

Having same problem between XBOX 360 wireless adapter and DLINK DIR-825 Ver, B1 with firmware 2.02NA not connecting wirelessly with XBOX. This is the reason I purchased this router. I am currently using my laptop as a wireless bridge to connect with XBOX LIVE and can't take it any more. This D-Link crap is going back and I'm switching to Linksys!
-
Same problem here with B1 2.02NA and XBOX 360 Microsoft adapter not talking. Oh, and don't bother with the Linksys. I just took one back because every 2 or 3 days it stopped working. Apparently it requires frequent cold booting. Hopefully D-Link will fix this soon but who knows. Most wireless manufacturers seem to be in a race to produce the crappiest products they can. Right now I am just using my old belkin wireless router as an access point for the XBox and my other devices are using my new DIR-825.
One funny thing, with all the money and aggravation on wireless, I could probably get an electrician to run Cat5E to my upstairs rooms and go full gigabit with NO HASSLES! Now that I mention it, that's actually starting to sound like a good idea.
-
spent past 2 and a half hours bouncing between microsoft and Dlink customer support, and I was finally getting transferred to the higher up senior technician when my call got dropped. Same problem, DIR 825 not connecting with my official microsoft adapter. Bought a DAW 160, and Dlink technical support doesn't know enough about Xboxes to help me. Told me to put the installation software into the 360 and run it >.< I think They're going to try to transfer me to the senior technician now. I did check on Xbox's website, and it said the DIR 825 was compatible with XBL, and every router on that list was said to have been tested. ???
I do agree that simply running some wire through the floor would be simpler.
-
OK, so i bought this DWA 160 earlier, which clearly says on the box it works with gaming consoles. So i get to the technician lady on the customer support, and she tells me to undo a few things the lower level technician told me to do, still not working. She puts me on hold for a while, says there's not really anything else that can be done, and I remind her i have the DWA 160. She puts me on hold to look up some info, and tells me it doesn't work with 360s. She recommends using the Microsoft official adapter because it won't have compatability issues. Fail. I'm thinking that cable in the floor is looking pretty nice right now, since COX does my phone, internet, and TV, and i could probably just splice the wire thats in the wall for the TV. Save me $70 for the adapter and 3 and half hours on customer support. Probably could have finished it by now.
-
Beta code to fix this issue is released! http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=8957.0
I haven't tried it myself yet. (Haven't had time yet.)
Please post if you have tested it!!! http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=8959.0

Just updated my 825 with the beta and connected my 360 with no problems. Thank you!
