Title: How to stop access to router setup
Post by: rpw on August 02, 2009, 08:11:31 PM
I need to know how to setup the router so that only a specific IP or non-wireless can even gain access to the routers setup web page.

As it stands now I have 2 DAP-1522 (1 as wireless(WL) bridge/ 1 access point), 2 DLink swithes and 1 DIR-655.

It has 4 laptops (WL) 5 computers (wired w/ switches), 2 Xboxes (1 wired, 1 WL via bridge )

2 DVR (1 wired, 1 WL via bridge), 2 Blu-Ray players (1 wired, 1 WL via bridge) and 2 TV's (1 wired, 1 Wl via bridge)

3 iPhones (WL).

Any computer that is wirelessly connected to my network can gain access to the routers setup page.

Can anyone instruct me how to change the router to only allow 1 or a specific group of wired computers to only be able to gain access to the router setup page?

I already have a password setup on the routers setup page, but I don't want the wireless devices to be able to gain access to the page at all.

Thanks

What does it matter if they do not know the admin password?

Can not access the pages without knowing the password.

Like KevTech says: are you afraid they will crack the password? If so, such a hostile environment needs more professional equipment, since the address 192.168.x.x cannot be blocked if they want to connect to the rest of the LAN or internet. It's the gateway address.

Access Control
The Access Control section allows you to control access in and out of devices on your network. Use this feature as Parental Controls to only grant access to approved sites, limit web access based on time or dates, and/or block access from applications such as peer-to-peer utilities or games.

Enable
By default, the Access Control feature is disabled. If you need Access Control, check this option.
Note: When Access Control is disabled, every device on the LAN has unrestricted access to the Internet. However, if you enable Access Control, Internet access is restricted for those devices that have an Access Control Policy configured for them. All other devices have unrestricted access to the Internet.

Policy Wizard
The Policy Wizard guides you through the steps of defining each access control policy. A policy is the "Who, What, When, and How" of access control -- whose computer will be affected by the control, what internet addresses are controlled, when will the control be in effect, and how is the control implemented. You can define multiple policies. The Policy Wizard starts when you click the button below and also when you edit an existing policy.
Add Policy
Click this button to start creating a new access control policy.
Policy Table
This section shows the currently defined access control policies. A policy can be changed by clicking the Edit icon, or deleted by clicking the Delete icon. When you click the Edit icon, the Policy Wizard starts and guides you through the process of changing a policy. You can enable or disable specific policies in the list by clicking the "Enable" checkbox.

This may do the trick for ya.

Parental and access control just allow or prevent people from accessing the Internet or certain sites.

Well it was just a thought that you could plug 192.168.0.1 into the access control for those computers ip's you want affected resulting in blocking them out of the router.

Then they would be unable to access the LAN.

Did you change the guest password also?

Then they would be unable to access the LAN.
Well I guess another option would be to beat their butt or put Cybersitter on their system.
