Title: Signal range
Post by: james5829 on August 04, 2009, 02:28:32 PM
I have my DGL-4500 set on the 5ghz signal because I seem to get much faster connections but the range is terrible.  I have a 2 story house and the router is in the middle of the house off of the floor.  I get 3 bars right below the router at 240mbs but about 10 feet away the signal fades away.  Is there any way to increase the range of the signal or should I just go to the 2.4 signal?  Also, is the 5mgh signal really quicker?

Also, is there a range extender that can be used with this router that might help?

Go with the one that gets you the best performance. 2.4GHz will penetrate surfaces better than 5GHz. Placement of the antennas will also help.

Also, silly thing here. Check to make sure you dont have anything that generates a HIGH energy frequency within 5-7 meters of the DGL. If there is, your signal will drop incredibly at 2.4 also
