I keep checking back for a new firmware release and it is never their.
Nor is their any mention of such a thing.
It is getting anoying.
ECF, will there EVER be another Firmware release?
Yes or No please.
Thanks in advance
-
ECF please give us an answer. We have waited long enough for these problems to be addressed!
Yes or No?
-
If I had one at this time I could but I do not.
What problems are you looking to have addressed?

among others. Just overall stability. Admit it, we all would love to love this product, but it has flaws. Please give us an answer if they ARE planning to release an update...
-
Is there a list of problems to address? The link you provided is a list a feature requests. So over all stability. I'm just looking for additional info to provide the engineers if any issues are being overlooked.

I have an issue that I reported to D-Link Tech Support that has never been followed up on:
I have a problem with the 750 clipping off the 1st second or two of each audio track I play... back when I had the DSM-520, I had a similar issue that I also reported that was never corrected.
From what I can see, it looks like the 750 (and perhaps the 520) mutes the audio outputs in between each track... when a new track plays, the audio output is not un-muted quickly enough to prevent some of the song from being clipped off. This should not be the normal behavior for audio equipment... the audio output should be un-muted at all times even if the 750 is not playing anything.
I have a Denon AVR987 receiver that shows the number of active channels playing on a device connected via HDMI/Coax/Optical digital inputs... when using the DSM 750, one can clearly see that the device is muting the output in between songs (the indicators on the Denon turn off).
Perhaps D-Link can get Redsonic, or whoever is developing the firmware, to fix this problem on BOTH the 520 and 750 as this problem exists on each model.

As far as things not working well . . . When using Rhapsody on the DSM-750, I am unable to play tracks from my library until AFTER I select a Rhapsody radio station. Once I let the radio station play for 5-10 seconds, then I can go back to my library and select a track and play it. If I just go to Rhapsody and then select a track from my library I get "Unable to open the file." Tried 9 different tracks (from different artists) and had the same result. This was not a problem on the DSM-320.
Also, when listening to an artist, the next track is listed as next station. I'm not listening to a station, so it should say next track.
The repeat buttons and shuffile buttons do nothing. Repeat and shuffle were available on the DSM-320.

Any response regarding Rhapsody problems I mentioned previously?

I while back, I telephoned D-Link to mention that in the pre-release versions of Windows 7, mkvs can be made to work on Media Center Extenders (by installing DivX's "Windows 7 Technology Preview"). I asked why this doesn't work with the DSM-750, and they said that they were aware of the issue and that they would be addressing it in the next firmware update. ECF, could you please confirm that this is still the case?
-
MCE in Win7 Does not even list MKV video files. I am not familiar with the preview you mention or the conversation you had with an agent so I cannot speak on it. Can you provide more detail and does this currently work on other extenders?

From a post of mine in June:
It seems the number one issue in this forum these days is that of mkv playback. This is also very much an issue for me, and I have involved myself in some of the posts. Well, I've got some interesting news. Here's the story, start to finish.
I only use this device as a Media Center Extender. I was of course very disappointed when firmware 1.02 came out, and mkvs still did not work in MCE mode. I repeatedly complained (both on this forum, and on the phone), and was always told that there is a limitation in the Media Center Extender specs that prevents mkvs from working. Frankly, I never really believed this because there's no reason that mp4 files would work (which they do) and not mkvs, since both containers typically contain the same audio/video streams and neither is natively supported by Vista.
When Windows 7 beta (and then RC) was released, I installed each on my computer and did some testing. Of course, I was sorely disappointed that mkv is still not natively supported by Windows. But, we mkv users now have a White Knight to help fight our battles: DivX. Their new "DivX Plus" setup uses mkv as a container. Now, with Vista, when you install DivX it installs an mkv splitter, and H.264 + AAC codecs. Windows 7 is a different story, however, because it already has H.264 + AAC codecs (and because it uses Media Foundation instead of DirectShow, which I won't get into).
So when the Windows 7 RC came out, DivX released a "Windows 7 technical preview" at labs.divx.com. Install it, they said, and you will be able to play mkv files in Windows Media Player, Windows Media Center, and - get this - Media Center Extenders.
The forum there immediately began filling up with success/failure stories from XboX 360 users, which is clearly the most common Extender. I tried it myself with the DSM-750, and one of two things happened - either the video would play but it was clearly being transcoded (which is an issue that Windows 7 is having with other file types, including avi), or it would play audio with a black screen. I posted a few times on their forum, and it was eventually determined that D-Link needs to fix something on their end to get this working.
I spent awhile on the phone with D-Link - first with a Level 1 support agent, then with a Level 2 support agent, then a Level 3 product specialist. Finally what I was told is thatthey are aware of this problem and will be addressing it in their next firmware update.
So, the obvious questions:
-When does this firmware update come out?
-Will it make mkv files work with Vista in Media Center Extender mode?
As for other extenders, it does work with the 360 (since it's a "software" extender, codecs/splitters can be added so mkv support can be made to happen), and it doesn't work with any others, since none of the others support mkv in the first place. The 750 is unique, it's the only one that's actually (supposed to be) able to play mkv.
-
OK I loaded it on my Windows7 Machine and it worked fine. I was able to play my MKV videos on the the DSM-750 connected in extender mode to my Win7 machine.
-
Just to confirm that it's not transcoding - does the quality look perfect on the TV, or is it blockier than it is on the computer?
I don't have Win7 installed anywhere at the moment, I'll report back near the end of the month once I've upgraded my machines.
-
I did not have a chance to test it on a HD television but it looked good on the TV I did not notice any difference in extender mode from playing it in media lounge mode.
-
How can I get 4:3 content to play widescreen in media lounge mode without using Zoom 1 & 2 on the TV? when I do this the heads are chopped off
-
Does your tv have an aspect button? You might want to try that instead of zoom.

ECF how did you get it to play? Mine only plays the audio and no video.
I have seen other topics on this forum about this issue and specifically playing the audio of the .mkv but just a black screen. I have seen you ask in other topics if it worked on XBOX360 extenders. Yes it does, as soon as you try to play that file the XBOX360 downloads and installs an update that plays back these files. I purchased D-Link's unit so I dont have to burn up my 360 and to silence the fan noise. Microsoft has fixed their issue so can you help your product along with an update to make us all VERY happy? I shelled out the $$$ for this feature so please make it work.
-
I just installed it to the PC then MKV video were available for playback. Next just started the extender and MKV where available there as well now and hit play on the video. If you are only getting audio it may have something to do with the video option chosen when recoding the video to MKV the DSM-750 may not like.
-
installed what to the PC? What video encoding setting should we be using so the DSM-750 will like it?
-
I installed it on Win 7 as well, and the mkv plays in extender mode, but the video is squeezed into the middle of the screen with the top of the picture cut off, dark nars on both sides of the screen that take up half the screen itself and the quality is horrible... played around with different aspect settings both on the TV as well as within MCE and nothing happens.. using an HDMI cable...
Same video plays fine transcoded by Twonky...

The dixv application is what I installed. I don't know what encoding settings would or wouldn't be support as this is a non supported application so I do not know what issues you may run into.

I tested the 8GB MKV video file and I had the same issue as you did (no video audio only). The video played back steaming to the DSM-750 in media lounge mode using a UPnP AV media server that supports MKV. It looks to be something the Extender feature does not like in the recoding. What software was used for recoding and what setting where chosen?

Okay - I finally tested mkv playback in Windows 7, and I guarantee you that the DSM-750 needs a firmware update.
Yes, if you install DivX, you will be able to play mkvs on the DSM-750 in Media Centre mode. But yes, they are being transcoded by Windows 7, because Windows 7 clearly does not know that the 750 can actually play mkvs.
I have tested a number of mkvs - some that I have downloaded, some that I have created myself. (As a note, I did come across one or two that just have black screens with audio - they were downloaded, and I'm not concerned about making them work). Just so that we're all testing the same files, I recommend grabbing any of these:
http://www.divx.com/en/downloads/divx-7-showcase
If you have a powerful enough machine, it will do a decent job of transcoding them. On a slower machine the blockiness will be really obvious. But I guarantee that they are being transcoded. Just look at the details and tell me if they are as clear and sharp as they are on the computer.
So to get back to an old post of mine, I called D-Link some months ago to report this issue, and they responded that they are aware of the problem, and that it would be addressed in a firmware update. Basically, the DSM-750 needs to tell Windows 7 that it can handle H264/AAC MKV files, so that Windows 7 won't transcode. So, ECF, do you have a way of finding out when this firmware update will arrive?
-
Nope..First I would need to verify that the Divx app installed to Windows Media Center is not intended to transcode MKV to a supported Divx file type on the fly as Tversity does. Can you provide a link to any documentation on this? Also is the Divx app certified my Microsoft on extenders? And another thing is that this is not a supported feature of Windows Media Center so I will need to have this forwarded to product management as a feature request and if approved it may be added in a future firmware release.
-
Any response to my questions about additional functionality posted on 8/30 and 9/18?
Thanks.

I know this thread is a bit old but...
ECF, im trying to get this to work but when i install the divx 7 preview, i dont see mkv files from 750 but i see them and run them just fine in Win7 x64 WMC. When i install Shark007 codec pack with divx 7 preview, i see the mkv in 750 but only get audio. You mentionned that it might be the code used for the video...if you remember, what is the video information of the mkv you tested and that worked?

How about a fix for the HDMI audio problems when connected to a Denon 3808CI??
I've reported this problem multiple times, each time CS acts like they've never heard of it, and ask me to upload a video clip to a site that won't take even a 10 second file (too big) to demonstrate the problem.
Audio via HDMI to the Denon is downmixed to 2 channel. If I connect via spdif coax, I get 5.1. These are both playing the same clips recorded off air on WMC.
You could sure fix that, and release a new firmware load as far as I'm concerned.

Unfortunately I do not have this device to test the audio on and 5.1 audio does not seem to have an issue via HDMI on other audio systems used.

Wow. Does that really sound like it should be a satisfactory response? Would you be satisfied with that response if it was your equipment?
There's a Sony PS3 and Motorola U-verse box that send DD5.1 to the same AVR just fine via HDMI, so the AVR can make the same claim about not having an issue with other systems.
So how can I get this resolved?
-
Well have you called technical support?
-
Well have you called technical support?
Called? No. But I've opened two (three, counting today) cases via email. The first two ended the same way, with a request to upload a sample file that would demonstrate the problem. Both times, the sites given to upload to, refused even a 10 second clip of audio/video, as being too large. When I reported that back in both instances, I never heard anything back.
We'll see if this case fares any differently, but so far it's pretty disappointing.

I am thinking of replacing my DSM-750 with the new XBOX 360 slim, I have had more success play files on the XBOX 360 than the DSM-750

internettv, needs flash the firmware?
