Title: DIR-655 + DWL-G820
Post by: mrcbrown on November 30, 2007, 12:18:16 PM
I have a G820 I am trying to connect to my 655, however no such luck, the G820 previously worked with WEP on my old DI-524, however now it can't seem to find the 655 as a WPA point, in the site survey and via telnet mode, it's convinced that its a WEP device, however all my network is WPA.

I did notice this: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=578.0 which seems to address the WEP vs WPA issue, however it's only out there for revB hardware, I have an A which only the 1.00 firmware is there for, any chance this firmware will get a similar release to the revA hardware?

I have the exact same problem with my RevA version of the DWL-G820.  What is even more frustrating is that it used to work fine with my Linksys router using WPA.  I thought by upgrading to D-Link I would gain even greater compatibility.  Luckily the DIR-655 has a guest zone, so I can get my son's XBOX out to the internet.  However, I have a DNS-323 on order, and I would like to bring the XBOX into my main network to give it accces to the new firmware capability of the DNS-323.  Any chance the folks at D-Link will come up with some sort of a solution?

The g820 should work with the 655 no problem. Does it connect if you disable the encryption?

Thank you for the quick reply.  Yes, the G820 connects fine with WEP, but it will not connect with WPA.  When WPA is enabled on the router, the DWL-G820 "sees" it as WEP.  This behavior was documented (and fixed) with the Version B of the DWL-G820 hardware.  The previous poster and I are wondering if there is any hope for us Version A owners.  Thanks again.

I'll have a look. Have you updated the firmware?

I wish I could.  There don't appear to be any firmware releases after 1.0 for the Rev A hardware.  I've even reloaded the 1.0 firmware just to ensure I have a clean copy.  Thanks.

I wanted to check in to see if you have found any updated firmware (or possibility of updating the firmware) for the Rev A model.    Thank you.

It appears that the DWL-G820 only supports WPA TKIP so make sure that your DIR-655 is set to WPA only and TKIP and NOT set to "Auto-WPA and WPA2 TKIP and AES".

It's been a while, but I think I tried that and it didn't work.  Nothing but WEP worked with the DIR-655 (whereas WPA-TKIP used to work with my old Linksys).  However, if I do as you suggest, don't I effectively turn off Draft-n?   That's not a trade-off I want to make for this particular game adapter.  Thank you.

Just wanted to note that I had the same issue with a Rev. A, and setting it to WPA only/TKIP corrected it.  Thanks!

Thanks for the posts. I had the same issue with a rev A and could only get it to with with the guest zone. I couldn't get it to work with WPA only and TKIP.

@trazz: I don't have the same setup but I'm curious if you can still keep wireless n on with your guest zone set up to support WPA-TKIP only?
