Title: Problem accessing MLB.TV service with DIR-655
Post by: ErikMTL on August 10, 2009, 10:28:01 PM
I purchased this router today, and the experience has rapidly become sour.

The main issue I'm having is that I cannot access MLB.TV games.  Their server is failing to read my IP address to verify my location, so it's blacking me out of every game.  This has never happened before tonight.

Sites appear to be able to read my IP, as when I called MLB CS he had me check it with whatismyip.com, and it resolves just fine there.  The CS rep was able to manually fix my access, but later in the evening either my internet or the router itself dropped service, and when I cycled power my MLB access had gone away again.

So, if my IP is readable from the outside, something must be leading MLB's servers to believe I'm using a proxy or something.  It's at this point that I'm at a total loss.  I've toggled anything that looked related, and some things that didn't.  I've tried turning off DHCP and having our PCs connect with a static setup.  I honestly have no idea what else to try, and I'm about to just throw in the towel and exchange the router for something else.

Does anyone have any ideas?

If MLB CS was able to fix your connection I doubt there is an issue with he router. Only option could be that you're not using your ISP's DNS (in other words: you use SecureSpot or use Advanced DNS (firmware 1.32 only feature). But I really don't see how MLB couls bypass that from their base...

Thanks for the reply.

After hours of searching, I have indeed come to the conclusion that the issue probably has nothing to do with the router, but is instead something wrong with MLB.TV or my account with them.

Unfortunately there's no daytime baseball today, so I have to wait until this evening to see if the problem still exists, and if so, contact their CS again.

Hi,

As a side thought, do you have your IP settings in your network connections area set to get IP automatically or did you put in a specific IP and gateway and DNS for the pc's adapter ?
