Title: DNS 320 power failure
Post by: florian320 on September 04, 2017, 06:33:00 PM
I just came back from vacation, I plugged the power adapter and started my DNS320 but nothing happened. When I looked at the back, the power connector (into 320) was hot and almost melting. Not sure why was that, the power adapter was unplugged from wall all the time while I was away. Anyway, I have three questions:
1) Is  it possible that the internal power is not damaged and getting a new power adapter will work?
2) If the internal power is damaged can it be easily fixed?
3) The 320 has 2 HDDs in RAID1. If it can't be fixed, what's the easiest way to move them to another system?

I just came back from vacation, I plugged the power adapter and started my DNS320 but nothing happened. When I looked at the back, the power connector (into 320) was hot and almost melting. Not sure why was that, the power adapter was unplugged from wall all the time while I was away. Anyway, I have three questions:
1) Is  it possible that the internal power is not damaged and getting a new power adapter will work? As long as it meets the same voltage and amp specs as on the power block of the power supply.
2) If the internal power is damaged can it be easily fixed? No
3) The 320 has 2 HDDs in RAID1. If it can't be fixed, what's the easiest way to move them to another system? If the DNS itself is bad, it maybe possible to connect them to same model DNS 320. IF not, then you'd need to attempt recovery:

I had the same problem, I need the details regarding the Power jack, which diameter for the pin etc. or a part number for the cable plug.

You can get specs and replacement from your regional D-Link support office. They will have spec info...
Or try there: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=50653.msg188005#msg188005
