Title: Schedule and Access Control
Post by: MDCWLAF on August 18, 2009, 08:24:14 AM
I have two teenage boys who would live on the internet 24 hours a day. I have setup different schedules  for week nights and weekends. I worked around the time issue by making two separate schedules. On week nights, the schedules run from 10:00pm to 11:59pm and 12:00am to 6:30am. I have it set to block all access for these times. I have used the MAC address filter for all networked machines.

The problem is that it doesn't block the access. It doesn't shut off at 10:00 pm if they are already on. I have the time set correctly.

I have the same issue except one of my teenagers is a girl.  I had the 655 and the schedules didn't work on it.  I just bought the 825 hoping it would be better.

If you have any success please let me know.  My backup solution is low tech.  I will run the WAN access connection between my router and modem through a simple switch that has the power supply controlled by a simple electric light timer box, or possibly put the modem power supply on the hardware timer.  Problem is then I won't be able to bypass but I guess then I'll be setting a good example.

Hope Dlink is able to work this out soon.

I've had the same problem. I had mine set to turn off all Internet access to my kids' computer from 8 pm to 8 am every day. Every Sunday Internet access would be denied after 8 am. I'd have to log on to the router and turn off that rule, save settings and then turn it back on and save settings again. PITA.

I now just use Parental Controls in Windows 7 to prevent them from loging on during those times.

On a DIR-655

Hello everyone I have a DIR-655, and I belive I have a solution but I need confirmation however I do not know if your routers have this same feature as mine. I also made policies for my kids and after looking at some settings I have discovered that the DNS Relay option in setup >network settings >router settings has to be checked in order for this feature to work. Let me know if this works  ???

If I check DNS Relay, then I lose connectivity every couple of days and I have to power cycle my router to get it working again.

When you did that, did the policies start working on your router?
