I just ordered the DWA-160 from BestBuy online, and I will be going to pick it up in about three hours.
I have read on this board that, assuming it's a revision B, I can use the RAlink drivers instead of the bundled drivers.
If it is revision B, which drivers from this page would I use?

Any help toward a smooth installation is appreciated. :)

It is the RT2870 driver:
http://www.ralinktech.com.tw/data/drivers/IS_AP_STA_RT2870_D-1.4.5.0_VA-2.3.5.0_W7-3.0.2.0_RU-3.1.0.0_AU-3.0.2.0_071509_1.5.1.0_Free.exe
Just run the driver file, it will guide you through installation.
Choose the install with utility, you can change there to windows management with a mouseclick if you want.
The stick has to be plugged in otherwise the installation will stop.
Cancel the automatic detection of windows.

It turns out my local BestBuy had all revision "A1" per the box stickers. The other BB in town also has all "A". In fact, everywhere I found it last night, it was "A". I have emailed some online vendors to see if they have any "B".

Anyone else using this driver? Just looking for confirmation, since I hope to find a Rev B before long.
I'm assuming that I can just install the driver (URL above), and do NOT need the DLink CDROM to install.

You don't need the CDROM anymore if you use the Ralink driver.
It is almost the same on CD - a customized Ralink driver and the D-Link tool for the driver.
In the download package you find the most recent Ralink driver and the generic Ralink tool which has much more possible settings.

Just found a HW:B1 adapter, so will try tonight!
Just wish my old laptop had a spare high-power USB port; will have to "juggle" devices to free-up a high-power port...

Got DWA-160, HW:B1. RALINK driver works great!

Anyone have a on-line etailer that would have the B version? NewEgg and TigerDirect both seem to have "discountinued" (do not carry it anymore) the DWA-160 adapter and "its" competitor the Linksys WUSB600n.
-
OfficeMax has them at their stores, so you can probably get one on-line (or phone). The question is can you provide "special instructions" to only ship you a HW:B1 one. They probably have both in the warehouse...

Looks like the link is dead now.

yes, seems there are only dead links on the support site:

You can download it from my ftp:

I have not been able to install the RAlink 2870 driver for my DWA-160 rev.B. I have tried both the 1.4.5.0 version and the 1.4.9.0 version off the RAlink site and both give me the error "Setup Has Encountered a Problem and Needs to Close" every time I run. Yes I have the right file and yes I have uninstalled the Dlink software before proceeding. Any advice would be helpful. (I am on XP service pack 2.) Thanks.
