Title: Connects to router, but no internet.
Post by: Puck on August 22, 2009, 05:42:30 PM
I am having an issues with my newly purchased DIR-655 router.  I am able to connect to the router and access the web-based configuration.  I am even able to make changes in it with no issues.  But no matter what I try, I just can't connect to the internet.  I've done all the wizards, cloned MAC addresses, enabled/disabled many features that may hinder it, upgraded the firmware, reset to manufacturer settings several times, and have tried from 3 different computers and still have no luck. Next step is a call to tech support, but i figured i would try this as well.  It is currently on A4/1.32NA.  Any comments or advice would be helpful.  Thanks.

You didn't tell how you were connecting to the Internet itself.  If you have a Cable modem: Unplug the 655, unplug the cable modem.  Make sure ethernet cable goes from modem to WAN port on 655. Power up the cable modem, what until its fully booted. Press in and release the reset button on the 655 and then power it up.  Wait for it to boot up and then you should be able to go in and configure you network.

Forgot to mention that.  I have tried both wired and wireless, both have produced the same results.  I am able to configure my network, but no configuration I use seems to work.  I have set up a few routers before, all of which have worked just fine.  I have reset the router a few times, but I never tried resetting it with the router off.  I will try it, and let you know how it goes.  Thanks for the advice.

This bloody 1.32NA is causing all that DNS server problem.  I was smooth-sailing using the original firmware.  Ever since I flashed using the newest firmware, the router had periodical connection problem.  I hook the cable modem directly to the PC and problem's gone!

For the record, I'm not using any Advanced DNS or relay features.  "Can not connect to DNS server" problem still persists.

DLink had better come out with some solutions!  They're so stupid.  If only they allowed rolling back the firmware, there wouldn't have been all these complaints.

I was having this same problem on 1.21 right out of the box.  I upgraded the firmware, hoping that it might fix the problem.

Strange.  When I bought it, it worked like a charm.  And it's the fastest router I ever owned.

Now I don't know.  Nothing annoys a person more than an unreliable equipment!  I can't recommend this to anyone.
