Title: Can't select 20/40 channel width on DIR-825
Post by: RonDMC on August 23, 2009, 10:38:19 AM
Why when I select 20/40 channel width on my DIR-825 and save the settings does it change itself back to 20 Mhz. Do any other settings have any impact on this?

Thanks

Only applies to 802.11N.  Do you have a setting that permits 802.11N?  I use only 802.11G at the moment...

Yes it is set to 802.11n ONLY and 2.4Ghz channel is off, tried it with 2.4 on and it does the same thing..

I have the same issue.  I haven't yet found a way to enable it.  It's restricting my connection to 140mbit.

Which version of HW do you have (A1 or B1)?
Which version of firmware (should be displayed when you logon to 192.168.0.1)?

I have the same issue (B1 - 2.02NA)
I thought that it was working, ...now it is not.
Has anyone done a "hard reset" to see if it works with no other configurations set?
My wifi connection is at 108 Mps.....  I can't get more.  I think it's due to the 20/40 issue, but I'm not sure.
Because I'm only stream DivX and XviD, ...I have no issues with speed, ...so 108 is working for me.

I have found a similar issue with other settings on the B1 rev with V2.02NA.  In most cases I found that by hammering the setting and trying over and over I was able to get it to stay set.  Other times setting the option, select save then pull the plug on the router did the trick.

Maybe try a different webbrowser??  I've been using Firefox.

This appears to be a common issue with the B1 and V2.02NA.

I just got a new "N" card, and ran N for the first time.  On the 2.4GHz band (only one I tried), "Auto 20/40" works fine...

HW:B1
Firmware: 2.02NA

HW is B1
Firmware is  2.00WW

B1 HW is very good, but not sure about that firmware.  I have 2.02NA, which is the latest.  NA = North America.  I've also seen EU for the european version of the firmware.  I don't know what WW is, though.

I suggest creating a new thread here, and asking if it is OK to upgrade from 2.00WW to 2.02NA (assuming you are OK with english-language).

I can also set 20/40 on the 2.4Ghz band, however my card (Intel 3945) will only do 40 on the 5Ghz band, so 20/40 on the 2.4Ghz band is useless for me :P

If the bug were reversed (can't set 20/40 on 2.4G but can set it on 5G) then I wouldn't even know or care there's a bug!

I am in Australia, when I select firmware upgrade from within the router it tells me I have the latest version. Not sure if I want to do the upgrade as it may do more harm than good and some people with that firmware seem to be having the issue as well.

I have the NA version.  It told me I had the latest too; DOH!

I upgraded to 2.02NA, and all is good.  Since you have WW, though, I'd check first...

Did some playing around....  B1 2.02NA
2.4 Ghz --> I have setup to G only
5 Ghz --> When setup to N only, ...could not get "20/40 Mhz" to save on the config
I change the 5 Ghz to N and A, ...and change to 20/40 at the same time, and it worked.
My wireless signal strength on my PC (Vista 64) is 4 bars, ...with a connection of 162 Mbps

I have Version A1 Ver 1.01

If you set it to N Only, then it allows you to select 40 Mhz

I have mine set to 20/40 auto and using a Linksys N wireless USB adapter, I quite often have speeds of 300 Mbps
