Have been trying to re-flash DIR-822 with DD-WRT. Unfortunately, it is now upgraded to latest 1.20 firmware, which seems impossible to replace. Uploading via UI and recovery mode both fails. Someone suggested to downgrade first, but even that fails in both. I have Windows 10 and tried Firefox and Internet Explorer.

Use the following to send a early version of FW v1.1x or v1.0x to the router:
Emergency Recovery Mode (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=44909.msg163599#msg163599)
Then update or migrate to DD-WRT.
v1.20 has encrypted FW.
Please refer to DD-WRT's web site for additional help and information when using there FW.
Good Luck.

Thank you for the reply. But I mentioned that I already tried that. Notice in the second screenshot how the POST headers were submitted, but zero bytes of content were send, so the other side (router) must have reset TCP connection. Antivirus and firewall were turned off. After this, the recovery mode is locked up, going back to 192.168.0.1 times out.
Load the recovery mode screen, works like a charm every time.

Which browser are you using?
Something you may need to contact D-Link support about...

Came back to this and managed to re-flash the router. I normally use Firefox, which fails steadily. IE failed due to firewall/antivirus in the beginning and then I did not try it anymore. So after taking a break, made two steps back, tried IE again with AV/FW disabled and voila, progress indicator and successful reflash.
First time seeing DD-WRT, used to OpenWrt, but they dont support this router. Now looking at the DD-WRT, it is an impressive piece of hardware. In my opinion Dlink made themselves disservice by hiding all this behind the uber simplistic UI.

Yea, any AVs or browser add-ons can get in the way of the recovery process. Glad you got to re-flashed.
It's up to the 3rd party FW dev's to support routers they choose to support. Sometimes they don't have a choice. D-Link seems to go for simplistic UIs for the average home users who wants the router to work and ease of setup. For advanced users, there's 3rd party FW.
Enjoy. ;)
