Title: Replace with what type of technology?

I see a lot of posts of failed drives and it got me thinking that the time might come to replace my DNS-323.

Since it's been a few years since these came out, I'm sure there is new and better tech out there now for a dual backup like the 323. I'm curious as to what people are using these days other than cloud storage.

Any recommendations?

Probably can't go wrong with Synoloy, WD, or Asus.

Cloud storage is not recommended for sensitive data. Nothing on the Internet is secure!!

I work on the idea 'if it isn't broken keep on using it'.   In fact I am still using my DNS-320 and DNS-323 boxes and intend to keep on using them regardless of all the new equipment around.

With electronic equipment if they don't give up in the first 2 years they are likely to keep going for the next 20 provided you don't subject them to over voltage.  In the long run there are many people that are taken in by the 'shiny, shiny' rather than 'does it do the job' and unless you want to spend well over £4000 for a hardware raid box there is not much difference between the old and new low cost units - they all use a software raid array.
