Title: DNS-321 with PS3
Post by: cripes on August 25, 2009, 03:55:56 PM
I'm trying to get the DNS-321 to stream video files to the PS3.  DVD VOB files work great but I get mixed results with mp4 files.  Most of the time the PS3 says that the file is corrupted but if I copy the file from the DNS-321 to a USB memory stick and plug it into the PS3 then it plays fine.  Some mp4 files work and some do not (when streaming from the DNS-321) but they always work on the USB flash drive.  Any ideas?

I just actually tried this myself and am having the same problem. None of my avi or mp4 files will stream from my DNS321. The PS3 finds them but declares them an "unsupported format" even though they played fine from its own HDD or from a USB thumbdrive. I have the UPNP media server feature turned on (in both PS3 and the DNS), and -- not sure this matters but -- my firmware is currently at 1.03beta-build7.

My problem turned out to be erroneous network settings on my part. For some reason I had my network adapter's NetBIOS setting turned off. After enabling that (couldn't map the NAS otherwise, as noted in another thread) and refreshing the DNS321's UPnP AV server, now the PS3 (firmware 2.80) access and play all the mp4, avi, and mpg video files currently on the DNS321 (fw 1.03 beta build 12).

Also maybe should mention, there was one corrupt avi file in the tree, and I replaced it with a good copy.
