All my Apple devices appear as Unkown in my client list, I am assuming it is because they have apostrophes in their names. Can a request be made for a future update to make ' a valid character?
-
I tend to avoid special charaters in host names. Underscores or Dashes sometimes.
Is Private Address enabled? IF so, this can cause DEV or Unknown to be displayed possibly.
-
I just have the defaults on my iPhones. The R15 allows some special characters but I guess ' is not one of them. David's iPhone can't be entered name field as this is my name on the iPhone itself.
-
We connected a few iPhones to my unit (2.03.09 firmware) and they show as "Unknown".
-
I can manually change the name and use an ' without issues (via eagle pro app). I checked mine at home and like half the devices are "unknown". Seems when there is no device name it is unknown.

D-Link verified the issue/bug and are working on a solution.

Finally got a BETA for this issue. There are still issues with iOS 15 devices.

Android and iOS (14 and below) have been tested and appears names are showing up. For iOS 15.x devices, which enables private address in Wi-Fi settings, both DIR-X5460 and R15 cannot identify the device name.
The router supports the following protocols to fetch client name, and it can get client name via discovery/request sent by client from one of supported protocols:
a. DHCP
b. NETBIOS
c. mDNS
d. LLMNR
