Greetings new Forum user - long time DLink enthusiast – I have been attempting to understand if the DAP-1522 bridge mode looks like a client to my DIR-655 or if there is some proprietor DLink discovery protocol in play. And if the DAP-1522 in bridge mode is behaving like a client would it not be possible to have multiple bridge mode DAP-1522’s WLANed to my DIR-655. Yes I understand there may be a session limitation or I may run into DIR-655 throughput limitation.

Yes, the DAP works as a normal client bridge and you can connect two or more of them which will share the bandwidth.
