Title: Using the DIR-655 USB port under Linux

I have an HP Laserjet P3005d printer attached to the USB port on my DIR-655. Using the SharePort utility I can share the printer between different computers connected to the DIR-655 under Windows XP and/or Windows Vista.

I also boot into various Linux distros on different computers connected to my router. It would be real nice if I were able to use my printer through the USB port on the router.

Is this possible ?
Does the USB port have an address off of my router so I can use it when setting up a line printer under Linux ?

Previous to the DIR-655 I had a D-Link 714p+, which had a parallel port, which I could connect to a printer. Under Linux I was able to specify the address of the parallel port as 192.168.0.1/lp and use the printer under Linux, so I am hoping this is possible also with the DIR-655 and its USB port in some way.

No, this is not possible.
The shareport utility has to run on each computer where you want to use the printer.
At least in the moment there is no shareport utility for Linux/Unix.

Only Win and MAC OS are supported.

It is not a printserver which is directly reached by IP and port, it is a virtual USB port over TCP/IP.

Thanks for the information. It is disappointing that I can no use it under Linux, but I do have a network multi-function printer/scanner/fax I can use there. The latter is just much slower than my Laserjet.

I do hope that the D-Link programmer's will update SharePort to work under Linux, which is probably a far more popular OS in overall use than the Mac OS. In the meantime I will get wiser and realize that if I need to share a printer on more than one computer I need a network printer with an Ethernet connection.

There is a good chance to see a solution for Linux as the silex company, which is the originator of this "shareport" technology, lately announced an SDK for Linux.

So if there are enough customers who want it, perhaps D-Link might think of to offer a client for Linux distributions in the future. Customer is king  ;D

It is a typo.I meant to say DIR-655 all along. I changed DIR-622 to DIR-655 for all my posts. Thanks for catching it.
