I want to thank D-Link and the forum members from the experienced to the newbies like me. 

I bought the DIR-655 router about 1 year ago and upgraded the firmware only part of the way to 1.21 based on the experiences of some of the people in the forum.  If I were more experienced or adventureous, I might have gone further.

Today I got up enough courage to download Shareport 1.14.  Shareport as a future feature (back then) was one of the reasons I bought this router.

It's working perfectly.  My wife can print from her laptop and I can keep using my desktop.

did you try connecting a scanner on your router? Mine is printing, but the problem is when scanning. The router restarts itself.
