Title: Question about transfer speeds

Hi, please see my results below connecting wirelessly (WIFI G) to my 100mbit router. Are these speeds normal, seems slow:

Running warmup...
Running a 100MB file write on drive Z: 5 times...

Iteration 2:     2.11 MB/sec
Iteration 3:     2.1 MB/sec
Iteration 4:     2.12 MB/sec
Iteration 5:     2.11 MB/sec

Wireless connect speeds are frequently pretty slow, though those are a bit slower than the 4-5mbytes/sec that you can get with a maximum speed connection.

I'm currently connecting through a G network, are you suggesting getting a N capable wireless router? Thanks!

You should see higher speeds with wireless-n, but you would need more than just an n capable router, you'd need to swap out your g adapters for n ones to see any benefits.

Please note that should, the nature of wireless is that there are no guarantees, your new wireless-n network could perform flawlessly for weeks until a nextdoor neighbor installs his network and the resulting interference trashes your performance - or - you might see absolutely no change in performance - it just depends on the "wireless environment" where you live - or - you might live happily ever after - fairy tale style.

Truthfully, I'm suggesting a wired connection if you're really in a hurry and have large files to transfer.  Failing the ability to use a wired connection, my only suggestion would be patience.  ;D

Hi,

Is there any unix command i can use for cheking my access speed to the NAS ? Or whatever for knowing this?
