Title: Printer is no longer accessable...
Post by: djice on September 07, 2009, 02:28:01 PM
In the last couple of days my printer has stopped printing across the network - it is a Brother MFC-465CN connected through Ethernet and was working fine.  I have tried every troubleshooting method I know of eg. Changed ethernet cable, connected to different port, reset printer, reset router, reinstalled software on one of the two computers that are affected (all computers are unable to print).  I can ping the printer from either computer but it comes up as offline when trying to print.  It will however print when the router is rebooting and it shows online for the first few seconds that the router is starting up then when it completes startup and the login window appears the printer goes back to offline.  I am using firmware 1.32NA and have been since is was released so I cannot see that being the issue.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Djice

Hi,

I know my Brother LAN (MFC-7820N) printer uses a mysteriously designated Print Server, set up by the installation program.  I find I have to simply change the Printer port to use a specific IP address, 192.168.1.3 in my case that I then reserved in the DHCP reservation table and then made sure the printer itself was set to use that specific port (refer to the printer set up menus as to how to do that for your printer).

Since I installed the printer software on each LAN PC, I then made that change in IP port on each PC I wanted to print from.....  Just follow the Windows Add an IP port to a printer wizard....

Thanks for the suggestions but unfortunately it did not make any difference.  What does not make any sense is the printer shows online when the router is rebooting but not after the reboot has finished.  I will try to contact D-Link see if they have a solution.  Any other suggestions here are still welcome.
