Sorry if this has been addressed, I couldn't find anything with the search. I have a DIR-655 router that I've just gotten to using and I have the basic stuff set up. The wired ports work great, but no matter what settings I try none of my wireless devices (XP laptop, Vista laptop, PSP) can even SEE the signal. What am I missing here?

Are you turning the wifi on?
-
You mean with the check box for "enable wireless" ? If so, then yes.
-
Reboot the router and then check the logs to make sure the wireless radio is starting up.
-
Hi,
And IF the wireless is enabled, do your client PC's see the SSID broadcast from the router ?
Initially try using it with no wireless security/encryption until you get it working properly. Then add it back in.
It could also be that the unit is defective....
DO NOT update it to the latest firmware....many threads to read about on this forum before you do that.

It says that "wireless link is up" is that the wireless radio you were talking about? Or something else?
Also, I don't have an encryption on, and I've tried it with all the fancy options on and off. (WISH, etc)
And no, I get NO indication that the wireless is broadcasting on my laptops. No SSID or anything.
-
Yes that is the entry I was talking about. I was looking to see if you got a Wireless Init :Failed entry. This would indicate a hardware issue with the radio itself.
The log entries indicate that everything seemsa to be OK. You will need to go through the configuration pages and double check the settings. Check on the Advanced Page > Advanced Wireless make sure that transmit is set to high. On the Setup Page > Wireless make sure the SSID is set to visible to get yourself started.
-
Yeah, those have both been set correctly. I think I've played with just about every other setting. Is there anything else that could cause it to not show the SSID at all? I'm really stumped on this one.
Oh, and the router is Hardware Version A4 and Firmware 1.21, if that changes anything.
-
Double check that your adapters and router are using the same mode - the b,g,n setting.
Also you can download issider:
http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider
and use that to check what is floating around in the air near you.

I've tried setting the router to BGN, G only and B&G, still nothing.
Also, since my laptop is 32 bit XP I've been using Netstumbler, and it doesn't show anything.
