Title: Problems only with XP laptop
Post by: mila on September 11, 2009, 02:28:00 PM
Hi everybody.

Yesterday I installed my brand new DIR-615, following all the steps on the installation CD. Now four of the five computers can easily access the network and internet -- a Vista, two Macs, and a Ubuntu Linux. The last computer, an XP, cannot. It connects to the network, but says there is "limited connectivity" and cannot reach the internet.

I tried a number of things -- releasing/renewing the IP address, making the IP address static, disabling the windows Firewall -- but cannot get the computer to connect.

None of the other computers had this problem. It was as simple as -- detect network, type in passcode, and boom! internets. This is the only one with the problem.

Any thoughts?

Mila

I had the similar problem with my XP laptop.  Dlink had me update the firmware which solved that issue but then I couldn't use my VOIP service.  There seems to be no fix for this latest well-known issue, and dlink is not willing to do anything for me.  So I am using it as a paperweight.  My Netgear router works great!

What is your anti-virus? I had that with Kasperskky. You have to disable the windows firewall and then go into the firewall settings of your antivirus and look for networks. Once there, right click and choose local instead of public. Save, and reconnect to your network. Should work. Takes sometime one or two times.
