Title: 130 Mbit Connection with DIR-655/DWA-552
Post by: TechAnalyst on December 19, 2007, 10:27:34 AM
I was a long time linksys fan but the constant wireless resets, router resets I wasnt happy so I thought Ill try DLINK.

Well the products look pretty I cannot get the 300 mbit connection.  This worries  me because Im adding another within the next two weeks and I rely on wireless.

Plus Ive paid the premium.  I dont want to refund :P

I followed the guide with no luck.

Any help would be appreciated

Hi Tech I have the same problem and don't bother trying to buy a diff router as i have tried them all LINKSYS Draft n the wrt350n wrt300 as well as the Belkin N1 which is sweet Ill have to say with the LCD on the front anyways I believe you may have the same problem as I. 130 mbps no mater what i do. My Last thought is it is the INTEL 4965AGNmm1 card that came pre installed in my laptop from dell. I have spent hours on tech support with them still 130mpbs. I don't know but I will keep checking back to see if ya figure it out. ???

See here (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=848.0) for a post regarding the 130Mbps throughput between Intel 4965AGN and DIR-655.  In a nutshell, it appears that the 4965AGN requires a dual-band (5.0 GHz/2.4 GHz) access point to achieve 300Mbps throughput.

Regarding the DIR-655/DWA-552 setup.  I have this setup at home.  Windows is reporting 300Mbps on my DWA-552 machine when connecting to my DIR-655 router.

DIR-655 setup:
- Firmware: v1.10
- 802.11 mode: Mixed 802.11n and 802.11g
- Enable Auto channel scan: True
- Transmission rate: Best (automatic)
- Channel width: Auto 20/40 MHz
- Visibility status: Invisible
- Security: WPA2-Personal, WPA2 only, AES

DWA-522 setup:
- Windows Vista Home Premium, 32-bit
- Older Socket 478 Pentium 4/875P custom-built PC
- I had constant system lock-up issues with the D-Link Vista drivers for the DWA-552.  I installed the latest 32-bit Windows XP drivers for the Atheros 5008 (v6.0.3.94) and I've been stable for weeks with Vista reporting 300Mbps.
- All driver parms are default.

Using the same setup Dir-655 & Dwa552 and following the setup instructions of Lycan (see sticky at the beginning of this forum) I started to get 300mbps throughput between my Compaq laptop and the router. Speeded up the refreshing of web pages and I am really happy now ! ! !

Thanks for the tip !!!!

to see the possible 300Mbps connection on the 655 and the 552, two things are required.
1) 20/40 Auto mode for the channel width.
2) WPA encryption with AES cipher. However Dlink support will tell you that it has to be WPA2.
