Title: DIR-655 Printer Hookup
Post by: n0oer on September 15, 2009, 01:57:04 AM
I would like to hook my Cannon MP190 series printer to the router so that I can free up having to hook it to a computer on my network.  I am using software XP and Vista on the system.  How do I do this?  I have tried but couldn't get it.  I am also using network magic 5.5 to manage my network.  "Help"  TIA

DO NOT upgrade the router's firmware to the latest version 1.3X on the DLink website...

You need to activate the Shareport feature in the router's setups web page, Save and then reboot the router....then you have to install the shareport utility on each PC you want to have access to the printer....

You may have to ALLOW settings on your firewall software to give access to the shareport utility....

You will likely have to install printer (driver) software once the shareport is active and your pc can see the printer physically.

Thank you for the information.  I went to the router but could not find the Shareport feature.  I was wondering if you could be more specific and where do I get the shareport utility? Thanks

Hi,

What firmware version does your router have ?  I have version 1.21  but I forget which version they introduced the Shareport function,, might have been 1.11 or maybe was 1.20

If you get to the SETUP page for the router, on the left hand side frame are Internet, LAN and WIRELESS.  The Shareport function are listed under USB item.
