I have just upgraded my network to the 802.11n standard, or at least am trying to do that. Im using a DIR-615 as Access Point and a DAP-1522 as bridge to cover the entire area.
After having some trouble figuring out how to set up and connect the devices, i figure out that it might some other problem than my setup of the devices (The symptom was that the connection was ok, but then it seemed to be dropped, even though the DAP-1522 still displayed connected in the status page).
After reading what I could find about the DIR-615 and DAP-1522 in this forum and on the internet, I found a suggestion about changing the Wireless Mode from 802.11b/g/n to 802.11b/g, and after doing that everything works fine, its just not an upgrade anymore :-(
I have upgraded the DIR-615 to
Firmware Version : 4.11 , Mon 02 Mar 2009
The DAP-1522 firmware is upgraded to
Firmware Version : 1.21 , Thu 04 Jun 2009
I have fixed the channel to 10, just to check that it wasnt noise from other equipment. The symptoms are very reproducable, trying to connect wiin n-mode and bridge only works for 30-60 secs. Switching back to b/G mode and all is fine.
ANyone got an idea of what I can do to get a better speed ?
All testing have been done with the equipmnt besides each other

Are you using different channels and getting the same results?
-
I have tried channel 1 and 10 as fixed with the same result. I have switched of all other noisy equipment, so I guessed it wasnt of any use to check all the channels. But if its a possible soution ill try that

try 6 and 11.
-
Ok, I've done a lot of experiments now, trying all the different channels.
It seems that as long as I just stay out of n-mode everything works very fine, but as soon as i switch to n-mode, either alone or mixed, the connection drops after 30-60 secs.
I have tried with the different security options, but the pattern is the same, n-mode makes one of them (DIR-615or DAP1522) drop the connection, but what is frustrating is that on the status panel at the DAP-1522 keeps claiming having a connection.
One other thing i have noticed is that when the connection have been dropped, the site survey from the Wireless setup in bridge mode, don't show the DIR-615.
As far as i can see I have a 68% connection at the moment, but how can i see what my connection speed is ?
One more thing i noticed is that on the setup for the DAP-1522 in bridge mode the channel width is 20 but changing it and the saving it makes no difference (I think that was mentioned in another topic)

Ahh, i found where to see the connection speed, and it seems that both devices shows they are connected even though the connection drops very often
As far as I can see its now every 2-3 mins, and it takes about half a minute to reconnect, and then it works again for a little while.

I've been having the same problems.. I'm using the DIR-655 and DAP-1522.
I'm about ready to throw the DAP-1522 out the window. I'm running mixed g/n mode. The connection constantly drops. I'm really pissed that I removed the hard-wire connection I had - I believed that the DAP-1522 was rock solid - I wish I saw this forum first.
I've tried all channels, same problems.

so any more tips from anyone on how to debug this?
-
Anyone out there that have a working n-mode connection between a DIR-615 and a DAP-1522 in Bridge Mode ?
If yes pls post firmware versions and setup

Apparently DLink doesn't make products that work together. My DIR655 WILL NOT connect or allow it to connect via 5GHz.
I'm returning it and never using DLink again. I've wasted 4 hours trying to get it to work. I give up.

Ive been at this for hours. I never really got around to re-setting up my 1522 with my 655 after I moved until today when I wanted to transfer some files to my NAS. I found that my 1522 would connect and and then disconnect..
So today, after many hours.. I think I have come up with something, but I need all of your help to see if this works or not..
I am able to keep a steady connection now after I disabled UPNP. Its under the Advanced tab, and Advanced Network.
This was the only major setting that I had changed after I moved, to get some other app to work correctly.. but now it seems to not drop connection..
Please post in this thread if it works or does not work..
thanks,
Chris

i am able to connect to a linksys wrt600n and netgear wndr3700 in N 5ghz band with almost no problems , great speed no dropping connection strong signal . UPNP is disabled on router bridge and computers , all set up manually .
Set to N only not mixed , router set to chan 48 wpa2-AES .
Only prob is if 1522 loses power have to go into admin panel to reconnect ,.
Could you get your hands on another router just to see if it is the 1522 or the router . My 1522 has been rock solid for a year , the only prob i had was having to go through admin>wireless to reconnect if i turned off the 1522 , now works fine with new wndr 3711 router and 1.21 FW .

See my earlier posts. I have got my DAPs to work stable and great with both DSM-510, Linksys mediahub, Netgear router. The trick is to use non-overlapping channels (1,6,11) in the 2.4 GHz band, and then 5,2 Ghz channel that goes through walls etc ie with low frequency as possible. And for security WPA2 in AES mode only. Tkpi seems buggy. I run 802.11n in in 5.2Ghz channel and 802.11g in 2.4Ghz channel. I.e. I skipped the legacy b and mixed modes. Seems that this is part of the trick.

Jim, I have a 655 too but the 655 doesnt have 5ghz.. thats why it wont allow you to connect at 5ghz... you have to step up to an 825 or 855 I believe.. Im not sure if i want to go this route, but I might do it..

This sounds like you have WPS on the router enabled, turn it off and then try mixed n/g/b again.
For the longest time I had issues with my DIR-655 and all N mixed modes. Since I have a B device I will not sacrifice (Palm T|X) I was angry, very angry. Mixed B/G mode worked flawlessly as soon as I switched to mixed N/G/B it was unstable. B & G devices might not even see the SSID much less connect or stay connected. N Only seemed to work fine just mixed N seemed to be an issue. Then I turned WPS off and ALL JOY came upon my home, mixed N,G & B not only works, its stable with no dropping connections.
So consider this WPS is supposed to aid in making quick easy wireless setup. In regular operating circumstances it actually is providing another way with a potentially easier (shorter) key to brute force crack and break into your network. So turn it OFF!

Hi Thorvald .... i have exactly the same Dlink Products and Firmware versions like you ...
... and like your DAP-1522 mine also disconnects from my DIR-615 every minute or so and reconnects after
a while ... the only solution for me was also like yours to go to b/g mode instead of n/b/g ...
all other tips brought no change ....
... the 615 shows a singnale strength of 100% ... (Both boxes almost can see each other
... my 615 has a HWVersion of D1 and the 1522 a HWVersion of A1 ...
any news to the issue ???

I am using the 1522 as an access point only. I only connect with my laptop which has an Intel N card in it. the connection does drop every now and then. I have found that if it is slammed with data, it will drop the internet connection. I see that it keeps the local connection. I have NO other options setup in the AP. No security, no QOS or anything. Manual setup only. It is quite frustrating to have the signal drop all the time. I use auto channel with N only, 5ghz only.
I have a dlink gamer router in the basement that is the G band for my wifes netbook. it is solid.
I can't test with any other equipment as this is all I have in the house.
I sure hope a fix comes soon...

After many hours of adjustments the only way I got my 1522 to work with my 655 was to disable securespot feature on my router.
-
Thanks for everyones' tips and suggestions. Like so many others I've had the connection drop after a few minutes. I wanted to post because I'm using a Belkin N Wireless router. It was set to broadcast in b/g/n but after reading this thread I set it to G only and now it keeps the connection. Then I set the router to only broadcast in N and the problems returned.
This is very dissapointing as the product can't be used in a way to justify the premium price so many of us paid for it.

I have the same problem with my DAP-1522 running in AP mode. Every day it locks up and no wireless devices can connect to it until I cycle the power on it. I can't even get into the Admin webpage of the DAP-1522 to do a reboot. ???
Sounds like a firmware bug to me (anyone else notice that in AP mode with FW 1.21 that you can't change the Visibility of the SSID?).
-
Thanks to everyone here. I was going crazy trying to figured out why my AP and this bridge would disassociate. I then went through my settings and noticed my AP was set to auto for the channel. I have since changed it to 11 and it seems so much better.
-
lmao. I'm also having the same problem and it's over a year since someone posted in here. :(
I can' believe this has not been addressed with firmware or something. haha So I just recently bought the dir-825 and the dap-1522 and same problem. I don't mind the router but I'm not sure yet about the bridge. I've set it up now that it would be impossible to for it to drop a connection but it still does.
I set the channel to 11 and if it drops again I'm going to the store for a refund. I haven't even had it 10 days so I'm scrutinizing this very closely. Good lord, shame on you dlink! Maybe it's time to go back to Linksys or try another brand.
Hell, I might just bring all the hardware back for a refund or exchange for a different brand altogether. Going to do more research this time though.
OMG - it just did it again while I was typing this. lmao, back to the store with all products. I'm effin fed up with this shat.
I dropped over $200 for both these devices and and a dlink wireless adapter never agian! lol
PS: I feel bad for you folks that weren't able to bring your hardware back but I feel lucky to have gotten this frustrated and found this post in the short time that I've owned this hardware so that I can return it ALL to the store. Linksys here I come!

For the record, I will probably keep the router since it's decent. The DAP-1522 is going back tomorrow. I have a second linksys N router that I'm not using so I might just try and use the dd-wrt firmware and see if I can get it to work as a reliable wireless bridge.
Don't really need the bridge that much but it should increase my speed a little just like the 1522 was doing... WHEN IT WORKED! damn what a ****py product.
And I'm positive it's the 1522 since when the link drops, I can just revert to my laptop wireless nic and connect to the router and internet/network works like a charm.
I would have kept the 1522 but I just can't take it anymore. I've spend almost three full days on this... and I'm a third level tech with over a decade of IT experience. Closer to 15 years but whatever. Either my house has messed up insulation problems or there's a problem with the 1522. Funny how my laptop wireless nic works every time though but having the intermittent connectivity issues when the dap1522 is twice as close to the router with less walls in between. Oh well.
They should recall the product and it is no way worth buying it while on sale let alone full price like I did.
Good luck to everyone. BTW the dir-825 is a decent router so no complaints on that.

Update: I returned the DAP-1522. I still had my old Linksys WRT160n V3 and updated with the ww-rrt firmware and it's working like a charm as a client bridge with the DIR-825.
I don't get it man. The DAP-1522 and DIR-825 are both made by DLINK and the website even recommends that they be used together but they don't seem to work. It's hit or miss I guess. For example, my friend has a DAP-1522 working with his Linksys router without any problems.
And configuring the DAP-1522 was not that hard but a bit of a pain in the ass however. While the ww-rrt firmware on my old linksys was a dream to work with. I was not required to hard wire to my router or anything. I was able to configure everything wirelessly and as I mentioned, not one drop so far.
DLINK is either off their game or... meh, not even sure what to think about this. But I'm up an running now and it cost me a lot less than I thought it would. :)
