Hi,
I have my DIR-655 in my basement, and I need to cover my first and second floor. Currently, I have the unit sitting horizontal and I've tried vertical too. Both work. But, I'm wondering if anyone knows the best orientation and antenna combination for a mostly vertical RF pattern?
I remember seeing a study a while ago from a guy who looked at the signal strength of various wireless routers and realized there were differences by model. I'm looking to maximize the vertical signal strength.
Thanks!

Just experiment with the antennas, taking into account what the signal pattern is of an antenna (donut shape). The box can be placed in any way, positioning it vertically (upright) is the best for cooling.

Hi,
I am a big fan of vertical orientation.... Not for signal coverage reasons, but more to do with heat flow. Vertical positioning will allow the interior of the unit to clear heat better
Horizontal positioning lets the heat just sit inside the unit, and like a laptop, heat kills....or can certainly make a bad situation worse.
Just my opin.

Yeah, the vertical makes the router runs cooler. As for antenna orientation you can go with what the DIR-655 American FAQ tell you.

I think I saw that FAQ and it didn't look very technical. More of an instruction on how to use the mounting bracket versus RF coverage tuning. Unless you know of something more technical? Maybe a URL?
