Title: Using MAC Filtering, retain Host Name on screen

Is there a way to get the DIR-655 to retain the Host/Node Names in the MAC filtering screen once the MAC has been set for a particular HOST device ?

Currently, all it says on the screen for devices once added is "Computer Name". Personally I do not keep all the MAC codes entered on my little yellow cheat sheet. It would be very nice if the firmware, which alre3ady retains the list of Hosts in its pull down menu for adding new MAC filter items, to simply display the Host name for each previously entered MAC filter item.

Anything I can do to enable this myself ?

Going to 'advanced', 'network filters' - I also thought it would be nice under the MAC filtering screen to be able to display the Computer name.

I recently put on the DLINK 1.11 and I just looked back again and when you select the pull down menu for 'computer name' in the DHCP Client List - the computer name IS displayed first and the MAC address is in parenthesis.

It appears it only saves/displays the computers that are currently connected - not those that had been connected in the recent past.

That would be another nice feature - to have the recently connected computers as an option - maybe putting an asterick next to those that are (or are not) currently connected.

Unless it had an option to save ones you choose. but that will use system resources. the whole point of a performance router is to perform. i wouldn't really want it bogged down with MAC lists that I would have to manage manually. What would be cool, is if the router had a way to export just the MAC list to an output file that you could edit with word pad.

It appears that for every computer you add in the "Add DHCP Reservation" section (under "Setup", "Network Settings")- it will always show up with the "computer name" (in addition to the assigned IP address) in the other setup / advanced screens.

Very nice.

It would still be nice if the router saved - (somewhere) - the devices that had attached at some point. If even so that you could more easily add them in the "Add DHCP reservation".

Which really disappoints me. I much rather be able to type the MAC address and then give it a computer name as well. That way I know what is in there. My list of 24 addresses has filled up a long time ago and I can't tell which is which, other than starting to look up every machine & device.

I have requested DLINK for the ability to go up to 48 MAC addresses - as supported by even my oldest 802.11b router from Linksys - but I am not holding my breath.

I would almost be happy just if the little window for the pull down list was wide enough to display the full computer Name and Mac...

And YES to your idea about the list being expanded to 48 MAC codes.... 24 does seem small....

As best I can remember, I have not seen a screen which shows MAC address without identifying the device name as well.

There shouldn't be any performance issue ... and I'm confused as to why you say "if you had the router store mac addresses, you would have to delete them" The feature does that already: store MAC addresses you want or do not want. That is the point. A MAC filter list so you / the admin can (if you want to) manually control which device is allowed to connect to your network at the network card level. I don't see how one could do that differently.
