Title: Signal strength issues

I just bought the Dir-655, i have 2 laptops on my network but they have 802.11 G cards in them and i am havging a hard time trying to get signal outside of 30 feet. I have the router in a vertical posistion, and i have tried multipule locations, the router is on the second floor of the house, i have moved it from one end of the floor to the other and i can't get anything above fair connection downstairs. Is this becasue i don't have N cards in the laptops?

PLease describe which obstructions are between the router and the clients. Also, changing the wireless channel from auto to a manual channel (try all to see which is best) could fix your issue.

Post by: KGB7 on September 29, 2009, 11:24:18 AM: Get your self XirrusWiFiInspector, install it on a laptop, then see what are the most common used channels in your area that are used by other WiFi routers.

Try Channel 4, it seems to work very well for me.

On a laptops WiFi card, disabled energy saving option. Google it how to change the option.

On a router, tilt the right antenna at 45degree angle to the right, and keep the rest of them straight up.

Read the sticky how to obtain 300mbps connection, you wont get 300mbps, but it has basic advice and guidance to help you with your issues.

60 feet is not that much, but when there's no line of sight the signal strength will suffer.

Post by: rukik on October 01, 2009, 08:12:48 AM: Ok i went through all the channels and channel 1 gives the best strength. My next step is routing cables throught the walls to a different more central location on the main floor cutting the distance in half and removing some of the obstructions. Then run a hard line back upstairs to my pc here. This should solve the issue i hope.
