Title: DIR-655 - Router Optimisation for NAS Multimeda Server (DNS-323)
Post by: Lucid on December 21, 2007, 10:26:52 AM: I was wondering if there is anything I can tweek on my router (DIR-655) to ensure a fast and reliable connection between my media player (DSM-510), DIR-655, and DNS-323.

1) ensure that all your connections are wired not wireless
2) ensure that your physical connections are consistent with Gige (use Cat6 cable, if you can).
3) check your router to make sure that these connections use the higher spped

I have a similar configuration:
DNS323 ---> DIR655 ---> DSM520
I just started using it the DSM 520. I was surprised that I was able to watch a movie via wireless!! (mind you, it wasn't HD, and I have to do more testing).

No problem in terms of reception of movie.
(And, I can tweak it some more, if required!)

I have now watched a few movies, and I have one beef. For some strange, unknown reason, the DSM-520 "hiccupped" in the middle of
the movie being watched, (several times), and said that the DSM-520 had lost connection with the network.
(By the way this happened when it was in wired, not wireless mode!).
Anyway, required me to start the movie over again, and fast forward to the spot - what a waste of time.
Other than that, no issues so far.
By the way, it's also a hassle to manually refresh the dns-323 every time I add a new movie.
Again, why can't they make it "auto", or on some schedule?

You may want to peel some of your comments out of your last post and throw them to the Multimedia boards for the DNS-323. The actual D-Link people in multimedia can comment on your feature requests and problems.

Also try disabling the wireless on the router, it may be rebooting.
