Title: Limiting XBox bandwidth?

We have a teenager who cannot seem to find anything better to do than to play Xbox all day, all night and any time when he's not in school.  Fortunately, his grades are fantastic.. so I guess things could be worse.

However, I run my business out of my home, and I find that at times the bandwidth takes a dump, if he's doing some serious gaming, and I'm trying to download or upload client work.

So.. I need a way to limit his bandwidth and give my computers priority over his.  Anyone know how to do this either in QoS or Wish, or both?

Hi,

QoS is supposed to do that.

You may have to assign a Static IP to your PC and to the xbox so you can use the QoS features...At the very least you will need to get the MAC for the XBox and your PC to do so....

Assign your PC a QoS number of like 105  and the Xbox 130

QoS determines priority, it does not limit or throttle bandwidth (feature not available). When two simultanuous coonections are made, QoS determines which one has priority. It will not completely solve your issue probably, but setting the Xbox IP to a very high value and your PC to a low value it might do the trick.

Ah.. Ok.  I wondered if the QoS feature would actually throttle the bandwidth.  And you've answered that question.

Thanks for that.  I'll try setting the XBox to a high number, and the PC's to a lower one.
