I am wondering, according to general consensus, what is considered the best and most importantly, stable firmware available for the dir-825 router? I recently upgraded to 1.01 because I was too afraid to upgrade to 1.11 or 1.21 (because it is apparently not down-gradable). Can anyone give me their best opinion regarding this? Thanks, much appreciated!

DO NOT UPGRADE!!!!
I can't say this strong enough; DLink messed something up BAD and the only way to get the new versions working is to disable DNS Relay.
Many months later DLink has not yet figured out that customers are not happy with the new version and they continue to ignore the problem.

Have to agree with Kenargo here.. DO NOT UPGRADE.. it will cause you a world of hurt.

Triple that recommendation. Do not update to either 1.11 or 1.12 (I have a rev A device). I did, and experienced frequent, repeated lockups that required power cycling of the router to resolve. That problem has ended with disabling of DNS relay, but there are still periodic (1-2 times per day) periods of 30-90 seconds where the router doesn't communicate with the cable modem. Did not happen on either of my two previous Linksys routers, or a prior Netgear router, or even my old SMC 811b router. I fume and wait it out.

1.01 All is good over here. No reboots, been running Rev A for around 6 months.

+1, stick with the firmware you're running. Each of the (non downgradable) 'updates' has been flawed.
It'll be interesting when (if) there's another firmware update to see whether any forum members will try it. Many will hide and watch waiting for fitness reports.
Cheers

How do you shut of DNS relay and what will this affect as far as my Connection goes?

1.01 is solid.

With a RevA router running 1.12 firmware, one turns off DNS relay by accessing the router settings via a web browser (enter the router's IP address into the address box, hit enter, enter your router password). Navigate to "Settings", "Network Settings". Scroll down to "Router Settings". At the bottom of that section is a checkbox titled "Enable DNS Relay". Uncheck that box. Scroll to the top of that page and click "Save Settings". The router will do some things, and may reboot. DNS relay is now off.
For me this ended the router lockups every 1/2 to 3 days. Now, once or twice a day the router loses its connection to the internet for 30-90 seconds, but it eventually restores communication. Still worse than any other router I've ever had (including this one on the original firmware), but better than having to climb a flight of stairs to power cycle a locked up router. I will trash it as soon as I free up the cash for a Linksys or Netgear or Trendnet dual band router with gigabit switch capability....or Dlink finally gets the firmware right

I'm using firmware 1.01 with my rev.A DIR-825. No problems apparent.
Except that I can't run the router as it is advertised, printed right on the box. Roadblock one, the Shareport software is "To be used with Firmware 1.11 or higher." Roadblock two, the D-Link Mac Shareport forum shows that Shareport is usable to NO Mac users for sharing a hard drive.
I don't mind turning off DNS relay to make the newest firmware mostly usable (except for the unacceptable reported '30-90 second' daily disconnect). I think DNS relay and DHCP server is currently turned off on mine, allowing my Actiontec DSL modem to be the DHCP server. Each computer just has DNS entered individually.
As a Mac user, Shareport is absolutely useless, maybe unless you're using an old MacOS version, as spelled out clearly in D-Link's Mac Shareport forum. But even if I was a PC user, I can't use Shareport, to attach a hard drive to my DIR-825, unless I am willing to allow a 30-90 second disconnect from the net once or twice a day with firmware version 1.11 or higher? I've got to ask, really?
On the off chance anyone from D-Link reads these, I have been and will be checking back every few months waiting for new firmware from D-Link, with a slowly growing sense of disgust.
If you're one of the smart but subjugated engineers working for D-Link, please let me know what little steps I can take to convince the corporate suits to devote resources to making a better firmware version. (And a version of Shareport for Mac that'll work.)

I am running Firmware 1.12NA on my DIR-825. The wireless connections were dropping every 5 to 9 minutes, then reestablishing connections, this was driving me and the wife crazy. I figured there is some sort of encryption handshake problem with the DIR-825 when using "Security Mode WPA or WPA2" so I dropped it down to WEP security mode and gave it a 5 digit key. The wireless connections are stable now. Don't know if this will help anybody.
I have not dropped a wireless connection in a few hours...compared to a few minutes awhile ago.
Have not had any problems with CAT 5 connections to the DIR-825.

1.01 REV A here. Mine will reboot the router when there's any sustained high bandwidth activity to the internet...noticed specifically when uploading to sites like Vimeo. It happens on wired or wireless. I'd love for Dlink to fix this as I have a lot of Dlink brand loyalty (DNS-323 + gigabit switch), but this is getting crazy. I'm about 2 weeks away from junking this and getting something stable.

FYI, I'm using 2.02NA and it's pretty rock solid, however I did have issues with Port Forwarding.
