Title: DIR-655 + DAP-1353 i'm going crazy
Post by: MasterJukey on October 09, 2009, 03:40:49 AM
When I connect my notebook with intel 4965agn directly to DIR-655 i have no problem.
When i had to switch to DAP-1353 (AP Repeater mode) with the same intel 4965agn i have too many problems:
connection lost --> i have to change my LAN ip and renew connection to be connected again (using: msn, skype, browsing and streaming like youtube)
DAP-1353 hangs --> dap is unreachable and i have to disconnect powerline and reconnect to powerline to restart it. It happens frequently when i use youtube and streaming from internet.

Moreover it seems to be slower than when i am connect directly to DIR.

DAP is connected to DIR with 70% signal, with WPA2-AES.

Can you help me ?

(Is not present an official 3d about DAP-1353 ??)

Thank you.

DAP-1353 repeater mode is only designed for repeating another DAP-1353 with the same firmware version.
However, repeating the DIR-655 worked with older DIR-655 firmware versions (up to 1.12).

You may try to set the DIR to 20MHz channel width only (your 4965agn does not support more in 2.4GHz).

Install the latest firmware for the DAP:
ftp://203.126.164.142/download/DAP-1353/dap1353_v2.10_985a(0805171902).bin

The repeater mode cuts your wireless bandwith at least to the half. You should only use a repeater if there is no other possibility.

Thank you very much Lizzi, i always follow you and your firmware release about DIR.

Ok, i have the latest firmware for DAP onboard and i have 2 DIR-655 one A2 with 1.11 and one A3 with 1.3x new release.
Now i am using the first one (A2 v1.11), the second one with 1.3x is worst.

So, can you suggest me a working well repeater with DIR-655 or  i have not chances ??
Unfortunately I have to use a repeater to extend my wireless without to going crazy !

I think to buy another repeater, please suggest me a working solution (maybe in PM) !

Thank you @ all !

I'm sorry but I don't know a real good solution.

Here in Germany some user reported the new AVM (Fritz) 11N repeater as working well with the DIR-655.
But only very slow...

Personally I'm using 200 mbps powerline adapters (DLINK DHP-300) to extend my wireless to the other side of the house. The DAP is connected to it as additional AP and works flawlessly.
Transmission rates are about 6.5MB/s which is sufficiant for streaming multi media.

I always avoided using repeaters, I only tested the function for a few days.
