Title: Quick, stop me from 1.22b05 -> 1.32
Post by: bluenote on October 14, 2009, 02:19:31 PM
This router caused me all kinds of grief for weeks, out of the box.
After playing with it and coddling it, and trying all sorts of firmware, I settled on 1.22b05.
Its performed like a champ for the past 6 months, with decent QOS performance and about anything else I could want.

Recently, it has started to reset itself.  Logs are cleared, connection uptime cleared, basically looks like a reboot of the router.  This happens many times a day and is driving me nuts.  I have wireless disabled, so we're talking about wired clients here.

Am I silly for considering the move to 1.3x ?

I don't use securespot.

Thanks for any advice

Cory

I'd try saving your settings to a file, doing a factory reset, and then restoring your settings.

If that doesn't fix it, I'd test it with a good, well-regulated 12v power supply (at least 2.0A, preferably 2.5A or more).   Your A/C Adapter might be in the process of failing.

Hi,

I also vote that the power wart maybe is getting bad juice, or just going bad itself....

I'll look into getting a replacement power supply to see if that could be the problem.

Any suggestions on how to find one that matches the end?  I prefer not to have to cut this one apart.

Any comments on the utility of going to 1.3x?  I've seen lots of threads about people wishing they hadn't upgraded, I'd love to hear the current state in peoples own words ..

thanks

Cory

Cory - you have to do what your mind tells you to do, but I say NO!  I have had nothing but problems.  Had to reset the router at least 3 times a week.  I disabled DNS relay and have not had a lock up since.  But I have also been unable to save any advanced setting - in my case, port forwarding - since upgrading the firmware.  This is very important to me.  this router with the 1.32NA firmware is really nothing more than a glorified paper weight to me at this time.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

So do you have to hard set the DNS Servers in the setup when you disable DNS Relay?  I disabled mine and was unable to get a internet connection.  Does the modem have to be reset as well, i have a cable modem.

Hi,

With FW 1.21 I had to ENABLE DNS Relay so it would use my Access Rules & schedules in order to control my kids internet access... YES I am that kind of dad who controls the kids access times and websites.

Go figger....

Come on guys, I need details?  Who's gone from circa 1.22 to 1.3x ?  What was your experience?

And where can I get a power adapter that fits the dir 655?

thanks!

EDIT:  I really expected more feedback.  Maybe Eddie can at least chime in and tell me its my environment? :)  Just kidding.  Love to hear your thoughts eddie.

In the end...if you have read all the heartaches folks have been expressing after upgrading to 1.32 and you still choose to do it....

Keep the antacids handy....you may well need them.

but maybe you'll be one of the seemingly lucky ones.....

Well, its more that I feel like I don't have any other options.  By my log its rebooting about 10 times a day which is ridiculous.  I'm going to look around for a replacement power adapter today but I'm not optimistic about finding one that fits...
