Title: Connection lost when cordless phone (2.4 ghz) is in use
Post by: kevinla on December 28, 2007, 05:15:54 PM: I know that the manual for the DIR-655 says that there will be connection drops when a 2.4 ghz phone is in use. We have have 2 of those cordless phones in our home. When one of them is in use, there is is not a connection drop. With the other, there is. Is there anything I can do with the settings on the phone or router that can prevent this? It seems likely that there is a solution since one of the phones does not effect the router.

I would rather not buy another phone.

Post by: ekalbach on December 29, 2007, 08:26:36 AM: Only thing would be to lock to a channel if possible. Most wireless phones are freq hoppers so that is usually not possible. I have seen cases where one cordless will not cause a drop but multiple phones create to much path distortion and thus the drops. You could consider getting 900 or 5ghz phones or replacing your wireless adpaters in the computers at home to 802.11A or N operating in the 5ghz band.

Look into getting cordless phones with DECT 6.0. Those do not interfere with either 2.4ghz or 5ghz routers or microvawes.
Some (operative word) 2.4ghz cordless will interfere with ANY router in that range.

Hi kevinla,

Change the channel in D-Link Wireless Settings, that the Router is broadcasting at. Keep changing until the Wireless Telephone is causing the Router to Disconnect.

Post by: Fatman on December 31, 2007, 12:47:19 PM: Of those 11 channels only 3 are completely separate, in a moment of desperation I would try um all, on the router and the phone is the phone has a channel button, as the phone may be on offset channels. However I would start by trying 1,6,11, then I would buy a DECT 6.0 phone. They gave wireless phones their own frequency for a reason, some phones will even have the potential to knock down every router in an apartment building on all channels. Interference is a major annoyance.
