Title: DIR655 A4 and DAP1522 = xbox live DNS errors even in DMZ
Post by: Kzbd on October 24, 2009, 06:37:04 PM
I can not get my xbox360 onto xbox live over my DAP1522 wifi to my DIR-655 no matter what I try, and I've tried evertyhing, even in a DMZ on the DIR, with and without ports forwarded to it.  I get DNS error.  It works when wired to the DIR-655.  I can browse the internet on computers wired to the DAP wireless to the DIR.  I've tried automatic and manual settings on the xbox. Every suggestion people have made about problems with them I can find in here has been tried and untried.

I don't see any options on the DAP for upnp at all. In fact I am not finding jack on xbox DNS anywhere.

D-Link tech support is freaking useless.  Since I bought it on sale in July and just set it up now, I can't return it, but I have no doubt it is just a piece of **** version A4.  Tried hours on 1.21, hours on 1.32NA, about to try hours on 1.31. I believe 1.32NA is highly klugey based on the fact that it wouldn't let me browse till I ran the stupid internet setup wizard even though it didn't change anything.

I am impressed with its hard wired throughput though.

So what should I be looking for on the DIR?

So just to update, what about Application Level Gateway (ALG) Configuration options and NAT Endpoint Filtering options on the Firewall page?  There's nothing in the log at all about the IP address of the xbox in or out of the DMZ or the DAP with every option in the log turned on, there arent even any mentions of their IP's when they were turned on or when the router reboots like there are mentions of my desktop.

Maybe none of this will matter because some 12 year old russian is probably blowing up my xbox right now.

Hi,

Does the 655 "see" the 1522 as shown in devices in the 655's setup status ?

I am presuming you set up the 1522 using a wired ethernet to a pc before you placed it out for use with your Xbox ?  Most bridges require some type of configuration before using them....

Are you using wireless encryption ?  if so, maybe try turning it all off until you get the 1522 running without it....then enable it and see if you can get it running with encryption....

I use a little Trendnet WGA- sumthin or other that does the same thing and I had to set it up first when it was wired to a pc....then once set up you unplug it and move it to your console....  It runs fine....

Yep I set up the DAP connected to a PC first.  Like I said I can browse over the DAP and the xox has all the right info in it, it figures out the correct DNS addresses.

When the DAP is in bridge mode it's invisible to the DIR, you just see the DAP's clients as wireless clients to the DIR.

Do you know where "advanced DNS" option is to turn on or off?  I see it in my status screen on the DIR but I don't see where to turn it off.  Unless it's DNS relay.

Well apparently it's the DAP since I connected it to my old trusty WRT54G and I got the exact same error over wireless but I can browse on a computer which is wired to the DAP which is wireless to the WRT, and I can connect to xbox live wired to the WRT.  So the DAP is doing something with DNS that the xbox can't use.  Only there are really no settings to speak of on the DAP so wtf, I don't know where to go with that.
