Title: No LED on right drive - but status reports both drives
Post by: str2k on October 24, 2009, 10:06:36 PM
Hi everyone,

Some time ago the drive LED on the right slot stopped working altogether. No blue, no pink...nothing. According to the web-based Status page all appears fine - both drives are recognized.

To put my mind at ease, is there another way to verify the integrity of each of the drives, or otherwise simply confirm it's simply a faulty LED?

Thanks!

It's most likely a faulty LED - as evidenced by the status page showing everything correct.  Answering your question on integrity is a little more difficult - what configuration are your drives in?

If standard volumes - simply verify that you can access data on both drives.
If RAID1 - I'd say if the status page is not showing a degraded message consider it good - you could pull a drive to simulate a failure, but I don't think it's necessary
If RAID0 or JBOD - as long as you can access your data you're good - BUT - just be aware that failure of either drive will cause a loss of access to your data.

Thanks, that eases my concern quite a bit. I'll keep a close eye on the status info in the meantime (and copy all data to another drive...just in case...).
