I am sick of this **** product.
What is it about UPnP that does not work?
What is it that you expect it to do that it doesn't?
I note that your subject is "Firmware after firmware, UPNP still not working" - not UPNP AV server - are you thinking of UPnP in the correct context - as an AV server - or are you thinking UPnP as in automatically configuring a network host such as a router?

upnp is not serving av files.
new firmware 1.06 did not fix
1.08 is abandonware
xbox 360 still sees files that have long been deleted or renamed on my NAS.
I have restored to default,
reloaded config...refreshed upnp....no changes.

how are your 360 and NAS connected?
The 323 and 360 work fine for lots of us, so there must be something specific about your setup thats' causing this issue.

I have a similar problem
I have my dns connected with cat 6 to my dir 655 and my 360 with cat 6 to my dir 655 as well.
I can detect the nas on the xbox but when i search through the nas's file structure on the xbox all the folders that are supposed to contain videos are empty (according to the xbox, but they are not actually empty).
Seems to work fine on my ps3. Does it have anything to do with the amount of files/folders my nas is sharing? Or the names of the folder/files the nas is sharing?

i have had similar issues with trying to stream hd camcorder videos streaming to a ps3 and here are my workarounds:
the dns-323 firmware 1.07 does not recognize mts as a vaild a/v format. the uPnP only serves formats it recognizes, such as mp4.
to solve this,
1. i copied the folder and renamed the .mts files to .mp4. this should not change the file contents, and i'm assuming that since the uPnP AV server recognizes .mp4, it serves the .mts file over to the PS3. the file probably contains header information telling the client what the file is. i played it safe, that's why i made backup of the original files.
2. log into the dns box, and go to advanced > uPnp A/V Server > Refresh
3. Turn on PS3.

Does the UPnP AV media server refresh successfully?
