I just bought a DWA-552 network card and DIR-655 router. My network card connects to the router at 300Mbps but the signal is low. When I try my Trendnet 54Mbps Wireless G USB Adapter it has an excellent signal. Now I ruled out the router because when I swap the router back to my WBR-2310 I get the same issue. They both connect at 54Mbps but the DWA-552 has a poor signal. I am using driver v7.6.1.221 but from what I have read some people are using an Atheros driver. I checked the website out but I am not sure which driver to download. Can anyone confirm if this should work or if I should try something else? I also noticed that my PC (XP with SP3) is locking up. Problem goes away when I remove the adapter

Update: Just tried Atheros driver 7.7.0.406 and have the same problem.

Hi ottawa1979,

I had the same problem. It is caused by the Wireless Channel.

DisEnable Auto Channel Scan, by unchecking it.

Then experiment with different channels, one through eleven.

Each person has success with a different channel.

As far as the Drivers, use D-Link Drivers version 1.50. Only use the Drivers, not the Utility.

Ok, I install 1.50 driver for my DWA-552 and tried every single channel 1 through 11 and I am still getting the same results. Poor signal on DWA-552 and excellent signal on Trend USB network adapter.

I am getting my signal reading from Windows XP. I just noticed that my router displays signal reading as well. Here it is...

But when I look at my network connections the adapter name "wireless network connection" is counting up. Right now it says "wireless connection 15" when yesterday it was 6 and the day before it was 1. I am assuming it disconnects briefly then reconnects and renames the adapter. 

I am really stumped and tired of spending time trying to fix this. Hopefully someone can give me some advice or I am looking at returning this product.

Hi ottawa1979,

I don't understand the purpose of blanking out your Router's Assigned IP Address in your PrtScrn Snapshot you posted. Everyone has the same range of possible IP Addresses assigned by the D-Link Router of 192.168.0.### (2 to 255). The Router, normally has the assigned IP Address of 192.168.0.1.

Also in the Print Screen, in the notification area you have two Active Lan or Wireless Connections on the same computer, which I don't understand and could play a part in a weak connection to your Router.

What is the Internal Transmission Rate for the Wireless Network?

You need to sign in to your Router Settings.

I had similar problems.  With my PC right next to my DIR-655 router, speed was good and it ran fine.  Took my PC downstairs, where other laptops could connect to the wireless network, and this DWA-552 card could not even see the router.  After trying the card in a couple PC's running Windows XP, and having the same problem, I decided to try another vendor card.  I tried the Linksys Wireless-N PCI adapter, WMP300N, and success at last.  This Linksys adapter even comes with a 5' antenna.  I installed it like the forum's have been suggesting (not using the wizard, but using Device Mgr) and it came up first time, and saw my whole neighborhood.  I don't know what is going on with DWA-552 cards, but it is nice to see there is another vendor's card works.
