Someone on the forum had mentioned that disabling the logs had given them more up time before a reboot. Since this does not effect any performance features I went ahead and gave it a try.
Even with the new beta FW our A1 router was rebooting about once every three days and now that I have disabled just the informational view levels in the log options we have achieved a up time of just under six days at this point. I still have the critical and warning view level log options checked and the log is still empty since the change.
When I shut it down to replace it with an A2 that D-Link so kindly (Thanks D-Link) sent to us it was just over 8 days without a reboot. I now have an A2 unit that has FW 1.14 which I just got setup 16 hours ago so we will see how it works out for us. My son said his x-box live connection signal was stronger and he had no lag playing COD 4 last nite, so far so good.
I am wondering if I should update to FW 1.15 which gave us no problems on our A1 ?
Does it offer any major improvements over FW 1.14 that would make it a necessary upgrade ?
I'm also thinkin if it ain't broke don't fix it may be my new rule with this new A2 unit.

Yeah, my speed's ok. It goes up and down using the 4500. I turn off the information log alert half the time. I could not view the log. It's say something like "Too much information to display. Unable to display logs." !! Now for COD 4 or 5, it depends on the host that is running. Like I could be the host of the game and then the next game I am not. :-\

Smith,
What H/W version is your unit?

My DGL-4500 has been up for a few weeks since Ru-fi-oh put out the phase 3 beta i have a WAN and a LAN configured this is how it looks to be simple

COX---Modem---DGL-4500--|Switch--------------|Desktop

so yes i have alot of stuff connected to it i havent had any problems with it the 6 wireless devices are (Wii, 2 Laptops, 2 Desktops, and an Ipod Touch.
yes that is a rough sketch but we as a family do alot of stuff on it. (IM's, Downloads, Uploads, Gaming, shopping, Schooling, and Video calling, All at once i usually nvr have lag issue but im only getting the 20Mbs from Cox like im suppose to be getting. so i dont know how others r having problems but mine is busy 24/7

Firmware Version : 1.21NA Dgl 4500
Smith, he's looking for the hardware version, not FW, there is a sticker label underneath the unit, look for H/W:
Mines A1

I have a question. I'm sure everyone have had asked it before, but question is, If D-Link has knowledge about the FW 1.21NA lockups and crashes. Why is it taking this long to get it resloved? I mean I'm sure they got hundreds of complaints back-to-back about the FW 1.21NA. It just makes no sense to take this long to resolve it... Plus why have the removed the ability to downgrade below FW 1.20. See this is what I mean if you have a problem with a FW, the best way of troubleshooting is to downgrade it. But you can't both FW 1.20 and 1.21NA are bugged! I hope they can get a new FW as soon as possible. I'm getting tired of pulling the power plug! :'( :-\ :-[ :( >:(

have you installed Beta 3 and do a full on default reset and test ur router with out doing any configurations? I've been using B3 since the 19th of last month and havn't had any issues accept wireless dropping out intermittently. Wired LAN and WAN have been on steady with out issues.
-
Yeah I just installed FW 1.21NA Beta 3... I was just saying you know, but I hope this beta works! xD
-
Let us know how it goes. I see you applied it. I'm running mine with pretty much default settings accept for wireless, gaming and game fuel settings and reservations. Most other things I've left alone for now.

Firmware Version : 1.21NA Dgl 4500
That's your firmware version, what is the hardware version? It shouild begin with a letter then a number.
-
A1 is my hardware but as far as for the Beta 1.21NA-3... so far so good xD
-
I had 11 days going, and this morning I saw it reboot when I was trying to check email. :/ I probably had it up longer too, and didn't notice reboot. Cause things were going okay.

I'm currently on 22 Days on 1.21NA, 2009/09/18

Using wireless to access streaming videos (youtube), especially in multiple windows, will cause my wan speed slowdowns and force me to reboot like clockwork.
So as long as I keep my girlfriend away from the computer... router can go for days
Still lots of wireless errors on my A1 regardless... but beta 3 has been the best experience out of my router for a while.
-
It doesn't matter using beta 3 or beta 2.
I didn't have any problem when running v1.15 on my A2. After I upgraded to v1.2x (all the versions), my DGL-4500A2 failed the SharePort few hours after it was power on or rebooted. The only soultuion was power recycle or reboot the router. I also have tried perform the Factory Reset for re-apply the firmware (different v1.2x versions) and manually input the configuration but still have SharePort issues.
Until I disabled the DNS Relay in 2 months ago while it was running v1.21 Beta 2, the SharePort working fine as like v1.15. My DGL-4500 can run for couple weeks without reboot it but the SharePort still running no problem & Internet is fine.
I've upgraded to Beta 3 in 2 weeks ago and no problem so far.
-
20 days up time so far everything seems to be working good. DNS relay is disabled and there is no gamefuel rules but it is activated.
