I was told from a 'engineer' on this website that the dir-655 is hardware limited to use MAC filtering for upto 24 address and no more.
so he advised me to get the dgl 4500, as its 'hardware' can allow for more than 24 mac address,
then i did it and it did not allow more!! so he said that its shareing a 'page pool' of memory and i need to remove all the access control features (he uses big fancy words to confuse me)
but after i removed all the added settings like QOS rules and access control all deleted I still can not add more than 24 MAC address to the filter list.
what is this? he first said it was a hardware thing, and now that i took his advise and upgraded to the dgl 4500 i still can not add more than 24 MAC Address to the filter list.
any help please? (i should have gone with linksys :P )
Ok, obviously I need to explain this to you.
the 4500, UNLIKE THE 655, does not have 24 pre-defined windows for MAC addresses. What I said was if you need more then 24, then the 4500 does not have this 24 entry limitation.
However the 4500 will be limited by the number of other user defined entries made.
In other words every DHCP reservation, MAC entry, schedule, port forward rule, QoS rule, all take away from the same memory pool.
Now that you understand I'm going to lock this thread.

The DGL-4500 is NOT supposed to have a predefined limit of entries. If your limited to 24, either it was changed in the firmware and not noted or you have some other issue. I've posted a request to our PM team to find out if this behavior is intended or not. If it is, it's news to us.

Lycan - My 4500 (using latest beta firmware) also has 24 limit MAC address. In my application this is a real problem so I am very interested to learn this is not a hardware limitation.
I understand from your email the 4500 will be limited by the number of other user defined entries made (DHCP reservation, MAC entry, schedule, port forward rule, QoS rule, all take away from the same memory pool).
I have tried disabling these features individually yet the 24 MAC address limit still seems to apply to my router. It would be very helpful to know what is the total number of entries the memory pool permits ( based on your post I'm assuming this spread amoung all of DHCP reservation, MAC entry, schedule, port forward rule, QoS rule)?? Does an entry to any of "DHCP reservation, MAC entry, schedule, port forward rule, QoS rule" each take the same amount of memory from pool? Lastly are there any other tricks or settings necessary to access full pool and extend 24 MAC address limit to something greater? And what is the upper bounds MAC address limit?
Thanks for assistance

I've queried the PM for the product. I should have an answer soon.

Hi Lycan- Any status on your PM ?

I just bought the DGL-4500 because it could handle more than 24 MAC address in the filter, and I just ran into a limit of 24 MAC Addresses. I found this thread, but noticed that there has not been a response in a few months. Has anyone received an answer on this yet?
Sorry just saw the response. I have only used the MAC Filtering on this router, yet the minute I hit 24 MAC entries it said "You cannot add more rules because the table is full. " What table is full? Lycan, from your explanation if I have added no other rules, I should be able to add more MAC Addresses to the filter, yet I cannot.
So I guess my question is, what is the real limit on the router? Kinda annoyed that I spent 200 dollars on this.

sorry to dig this post up.... but I'm having the same problem and was wondering if anyone ever found a fix

24 is the limit.

What ever happened to Lycan BTW?
